New for 2020: NFS Closure Order # 02-20-02 requires a PCT Long-Distance permit todisperse camp along the PCT from 3/1/20 - 5/31/20 in the Descanso Ranger District withinthe Cleveland National Forest (about PCT miles 13.8 - 52.6). If you do not have aninteragency PCT Long-Distance permit, "Camping outside of a developed campground withinone-half mile of the PCT" could result in up to a $5,000 fine and/or 6 month imprisonment.Developed campgrounds are at mile 20 (Lake Morena), mile 26 (Boulder Oaks), mile 32.6(Cibbets Flat), mile 41.5 (Burnt Rancheria), and mile 47.5 (Mt Laguna CG). For more info:http://bit.ly/pctdescanso-------The Descanso Ranger District within the Cleveland National Forest appears to begin justnorth of the large high voltage powerline (AKA Sunrise Powerlink) that runs along the southside of Hauser Canyon. Thegully is mostly easy walking, but does have 2 or 3 short boulder scrambles that some hikersmay find uncomfortable. After reaching SC103, walk right [SE] for 2/10 mile to reach WillowSpring. From WR620 continue 1.6 miles SE on SC103 to rejoin the PCT at mile 621.9.Skillful navigators can walk cross country E toward WR620 2/10 mile before the gullyreaches SC103, shortening the alternate by about 4/10 mile.
