WBSD planning November bond election

The Woodhaven Brownstown School District has scheduled a “zero increase” bond election for November 3.

Voters will be asked to extend the current tax rate. This will enable the school district to continue implementing its long range plan for

upgrading/renovating its school facilities.

The proposal will affect every Woodhaven Brownstown student and school. It will address several areas, including…

student safety and security

constructing additions to the high school

remodeling and re-quipping schools

updating instructional technology

replacing worn out school buses

developing school sites, including playgrounds and athletic fields

The proposed projects will enable the school district to continue delivering quality classroom instruction and to make necessary repairs and upgrades.

The bond proposal was developed in response to the Facilities and Operations Goal of the school district’s strategic plan. To address that goal, a review of school district facilities was

conducted by a 40-person “Blue Sky Committee.” The Board of Education reviewed the

committee’s recommendations, and approved developing a ballot proposal that will appear on the November ballot.

The district will work with principals and citizens to make sure voters understand the bond proposal and how it will benefit the school district and the Woodhaven Brownstown

community.

Detailed information about the bond proposal is posted on our website www.woodhaven.k12.mi.us. The district will also host community

informational meetings during the beginning of the next school year.

Sincerely,

Michelle Briegel, Principal, Wegienka Elementary

HALF DAYS

Tuesday - June 9 11:45 Dismissal Wednesday - June 10—Students’ Last Day

Mrs. Grefiz

My name is Amanda Greficz. This is my 8th year teaching kindergarten. I am a former Erving Skyhawk and a former

Woodhaven High School graduate. It is awesome to teach in the district I once attended. I love teaching kindergarten

because of all the accomplishments the kids make with reading, writing and math skills.

I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter, a husband, dog and a turtle. We love spending time outside on the boat, taking

walks, and swimming. I love spending time with my family!

My name is Sara Andrews. I grew up in Dexter, MI and then graduated from Spring Arbor University. I began teaching for

two years in South Korea! I learned the language and tried many interesting foods! I have been teaching in Woodhaven

now for three years. I am halfway through my masters degree in education. I was married last year to my husband,

Josh. He is a special education teacher in Allen Park. Our favorite activities are being involved in church, exercising, going to

the park and cooking. It's been another great year teaching the wonderful students at Wegienka!

Mrs. Kostowny

This is my fourth year at Wegienka. I LOVE teaching! I graduated from Eastern Michigan University and hold endorsements in reading and early childhood. I

also received a masters in the art of teaching with a focus on reading and literacy from Marygrove College.

I am married and have four children. I also have a dog named Scooter. My oldest son, Jacob, is a firefighter. My second oldest son, Nick, just finished his

third year of college at Central Michigan University. My daughter, Kathryn, is a freshman in high school and Joey, my youngest son, is in seventh grade. We

are a very busy family. Joey plays hockey, baseball, and basketball. Kathryn and Joe both run track and cross country. My husband coaches hockey and

volunteers at many sporting events. I am also very active. I enjoy running with my dog, kayaking, relaxing on our boat, reading, and, of course, going to all of my kids’ events!

Hi! My name is Alex Kersten and I am currently the Young Five's teacher here at Wegienka! Prior to this, I student taught and did two long

term substitute teaching positions for a kindergarten and fifth grade classroom at Erving. I graduated from Wayne State in the spring of

2013. I absolutely love teaching and have been so grateful to work with such a wonderful group of students this year! When I'm not teach-

ing, I love being outside and spending time with my friends, family, and my Australian Cattle dog, Kiah.
