Page 2: Haitian Food Dehydrator Project Overview

Target Area: Haiti & Dominican Republic The Republic of Haiti is a Caribbean island nation. It occupies the western, smaller portion of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic.

Despite possessing rich farmland, real per capita food production has declined steadily since the 1980’s, both countries consistently import millions of tons of foods to feed their underfed populations.

Page 3: Haitian Food Dehydrator Project Overview

The Problem in Haiti

• 60 - 70% (est.) of Haiti’s food crop goes to waste annually

• Haiti forced to import large amounts of food to sustain population

• Little available employment (major cause of high poverty rates)

The Problem in Haiti

In Short: Haiti has a resource (fruit) that could feed and employ people. It is being wasted.

Page 5: Haitian Food Dehydrator Project Overview

The Solution: Soldana

"Soldana is a social enterprise with the mission of maximizing natural resources to create high quality products and services that improve the socioeconomic conditions of rural communities in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.”

-Soldana Mission Statement
