I would like to thank all the members who attended them. You will be receiving a dues notice in the mail soon, that’s right it's that time of year again! Please stop in and pay your dues which are still $62.75 and $27.75 for life members. If you know of any member who may be delinquent, please encourage them to pay their dues, we would not like to lose them either. As this is my last letter to you for my term (which ends March 31st) as your Exalted Ruler, I would like to say thank you to all those who have helped me this past year and a half with all the activities and events. I couldn’t have done it without them. I know with their help and the help of the officers we have greatly improved the lodge and sent it on the road to being a great success of Elkdom while making our lodge the model for all the other lodges to follow. I hope some of the changes we made throughout the year have made your visits to the lodge more enjoyable and they will keep you returning. As I have said in the past and will continue to say, it takes your participation more than anything else to make it a real success, without you and your fellow members we have a road to nowhere. So please, participate either in the dining room, lounge area or at events we hold at the lodge so next year’s Exalted Ruler and officers can continue to succeed. Speaking of next year’s officers, I would like to wish them all the success and confidence in the upcoming year. 2016 Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship Winners

Hagerstown Lodge #378

Each year we review applicants from the area high schools for the ENF Most Valuable Student Scholarship. This year the applicants were quite impressive and the scoring was quite close. In fact there was only three points separating our fourth through sixth place winners. Our top three female winners and our top male winner will have their applications forwarded to the West District level of judging. From there selected applicants will move to the state judging, and from there winners move on to the National level, where over 2 million dollars in scholarship money goes to over 500 high school seniors nationwide. A special thank you goes out to Glenn Reynolds and Carol Brunner for their help and expertise in scoring our 22 applications. These students will be awarded the following by our Lodge: 1st Place Winner of $1,000—Brynn Dao Barbara Ingram School for the Arts 2nd Place Winner of $500—Natalie McHale North Hagerstown High School 3rd Place Winner of $300—Ogochukwu Akamelu Waynesboro Senior High School 4th Place Winner of $250—Samantha Kreps Clear Spring High School 5th Place Winner of $150—Alyssa Taylor Waynesboro Senior High School Congratulations to these fine students and we wish them the best of luck and success in their future endeavors. It’s that time of the year again here at Hagerstown Elks, time to begin planning next year’s budget. If you are a committee chair person, we need your budget request turned in or sent to me by first Wednesday in February which is Feb 03, 2016. The budget process/planning is open to any member wishing to assist, your input, advice, and comments would be helpful. You as a member will also see how the money for income and expenses is distributed to make the budget a guideline for the Lodge finances.

Now we will begin meeting on Wednesday nights at 7 pm for about 1 to 2 hours, at the most, to go over the end of year line items and discuss and determine next year’s line items. Our meetings will be in the Lodge.

Dates:

Jan 27 Feb 3 Feb 10 Feb 24 Mar 2 Mar 9 Come join in and help us map out the budget for next year. We hope to have a budget completed

reviewed by the Board and approved for presentation to the membership by the last meeting in March. The Board of Directors
