1 Before You Begin
Description Congratulations! You have just purchased one of the highest performance-per-dollar audiophile products available. The FryKleaner Pro is an audio burn-in generator of the utmost quality. Designed to provide a maximum break-in using a minimal amount of time, the FryKleaner Pro signal is a unique combination of broadband noise and low frequency modulation. Three output levels tailor the amplitude to suit your needs and built-in power amplifiers provide enough current to drive cables into direct shorts. The FryKleaner Pro half-kit comprises two blank circuit boards, two chassis panels, and these instructions. To complete, you must purchase the remaining parts from Mouser Electronics (www.mouser.com).
Features • Convenient chassis with multiple output connectors • Unique signal waveform • Three output levels • Includes power supply
Tools You will need a few basic shop tools (screwdriver, pliers, wire cutters, etc.) and a fine-tip soldering iron to build this kit.

3 Assembly
Step by Step Please follow this systematic procedure for assembly. Make sure you have purchased all necessary components before you begin.
Chassis Use the blank circuit boards to mark mounting hole locations on the bottom chassis
cover. See Figure 2. Drill 1/8” holes. Add six standoffs using #4 screws.
The panel cutout for the ac outlet is incorrect. Use a file to widen the cutout until the outlet snaps in snugly. Install all of the panel-mounted components in their proper locations. The female
XLR connector goes on top. Add the knob to the rotary switch.

Circuit Boards Install resistors, solder, cut leads. Install integrated circuits. Install transistors. Install capacitors. Make sure polarity of electrolytics is correct.
Integration Mount the circuit boards to the chassis bottom. Use the schematic in the back of this manual to wire up circuit boards, connectors,
LED, and switches.

4 Testing & Installation
Testing Once plugged in and turned on, the LED should start flashing. The best way to test is to connect one of the outputs to an oscilloscope and observe the waveform. It should be a sweeping modulated noise source as in the photo below. Of course, not everyone has an oscilloscope. You can check operation by setting output level to –10dBu and connecting to one of the line level inputs to your audio system. You should hear what sounds like a pulsing inter-station FM noise.
Oscilloscope photo of FryKleaner signal.
The output amplitude should read approximately 0dBu (0.775Vac) on a wideband analog ac voltmeter. Common hand-held DVMs do not have such wideband frequency capability and may show a much lower reading of around 0.1Vac. On an oscilloscope, the peaks will be about +/-1.5V. Unfortunately, signal level is completely dependent on the particular Q2 (2N3906) in use. Circuit values have been chosen around a nominally noisy transistor, and you may have to hand-select Q2 if output amplitude calibration is desired. Fortunately, for most burn-in applications such accuracy is not needed.

Connections The FryKleaner Pro is designed to be a standalone break-in machine. Connect your audio cables directly to the appropriate jacks. You CANNOT use all outputs at the same time. You are limited to one PAIR of interconnect or speaker cables, or ONE balanced cable, or ONE digital cable, or ONE power cord. Fortunately, cables can be connected in series. For example, you can run two balanced XLR cables in series as one big loop. Connect cables per the arrows on the chassis panels, from top connectors to bottom connectors. For maximal break-in, the FryKleaner Pro drives both center conductor and shield of interconnects in opposite phases, and in current mode. For voltage mode break-in, do not connect the far end of the cable. You can use the top two RCA jacks next to the selector switch as line level outputs for burning-in other audio gear such as linestages and amplifiers. The phono-level outputs on back connect directly to the inputs of phono stages. The power cord outlet is a signal output only, NO ac power should be applied!
