Lessons learnt from this Hadith:1. Ilm or Knowledge of Islam is the greatest treasure and fortune any person can gain.2. Ignorance of Islam is the worst poverty.3. Without Ilm a person will never understand his purpose of life nor will he be able to practice his Deen.4. When a person seeks the knowledge of Deen, Angels accompany him and he is rewarded for every step he takes towards learning.5. A student of Deen is protected from sin when he learns and the mercy of Allah descends upon him.6. We should always have a desire to learn more about our Deen.

Many students were studying Hadith in MadinahMunawwarah by Imaam Maalik . One day there was anannouncement that an elephant had come into the town. An elephant is a very strange animal to the Arabs. The students heard this announcement and immediately left the lessons and ran out. One of the students, whose name was Yahya, remained seated peacefully. Imaam Maalik asked him: “There are no elephants in the country that you live in. Why don’t you also go to see it?” Yahya replied:“Hadhrat, I left Spain to meet you and learn from you. Idid not leave my hometown to see elephants.” Imaam Maalik was very pleased when he heard this reply and gave him the title; "The most intelligent of the people ofAndalus (Spain).”
