It gives us great pleasure to offer you the opportunity to hold your civil ceremony at Haddon Hall.

Haddon has welcomed visitors for hundreds of years and its beauty and atmosphere never fails to enchant. A wedding at Haddon shall create memories for you and your guests that shall be cherished for life.

Haddon is licensed to host civil ceremonies in two of its most magnificent rooms: the Elizabethan Long Gallery reputed to be one of the most beautiful rooms in England and the equally grand Tudor paneled Parlour. We have also recently been given permission to host civil ceremonies in our Garden Pavilion set within the walled gardens.

After your ceremony, you are welcome to host an English tea party or glamorous drinks with canapés under a vintage marquee in the walled gardens that have been recently redesigned by the celebrated, Chelsea gold award winning landscape designer Arne Maynard.

Alternatively, you are welcome to relax with a glass of champagne in the elegant Earl’s Apartments. Or host a delicious lunch or dinner in the Haddon Restaurant.

The Peacock at Rowsley is the Haddon Estate Hotel and is but a five-minute drive from the hall. As an award winning, Mr and Mrs Smith favourite, with an outstanding restaurant this offers a wonderful wedding night retreat for a bride or groom or a wedding party pre and post ceremony place of celebration and accommodation.

MAGICAL HADDON

Over the last few years, brides and grooms have arrived and left Haddon in a marvelous variety of ways! We have had horse drawn carts, vintage cars, bicycles and helicopters.The guests and family have appeared less dramatically but are always welcomed by our dedicated wedding team at the Duke’s Tower and escorted to the Earl’s Apartments for refreshments.

INSIDE CEREMONY ROOMS

THE PARLOUR

Created in 1545, this Tudor paneled room is the perfect setting for an intimate ceremony. Adorned by a painted plaster ceiling of Tudor roses, with armorial shields festooning its walls and a roaring fire, there can be few places that can claim to make such a grand but cosy setting for your service.

This room can host up to 40 guests and can be hired all year round.

THE LONG GALLERY

Haddon’s Long Gallery is recognised as one of the most important and exquisite rooms in England. At 110ft long, it is an architectural masterpiece of the renowned Elizabethan master mason, Robert Smythson. Three walls of the room are clad in vast windows of Venetian bombee glass that twinkle and cast a dreamy light. Whilst its elaborate paneling of peacocks, flowers and crenellations bind perfectly with its white plastered alabaster ceiling.

With seating configured in various forms to suit your needs, this room can host up to 100 guests. Available May – October.

OUTSIDE CEREMONY PAVILION

For the first time, Haddon is delighted to offer the Summer Pavilion, a former Elizabethan banqueting hut in the Tudor Walled Gardens as a venue for civil ceremonies.

This delightful small space is a charming and unusual backdrop for a civil ceremony.

The lavender fringed path to the pavilion is where guests sit and through which the bride or groom walk.

With a backdrop of Haddon and the dramatic landscape of the Peak District National Park beyond, this makes for a deeply romantic setting for any ceremony.

This location is only available during the summer months of June, July and August.

NB. All room and the summer pavilion fees include: all seating, candles, flowers and bespoke styling. But excludes the Registrar’s fees.

CANAPES AND DRINKS

Drink and canapé receptions are a perfect way to end your ceremony.

Haddon Hall works closely with our recommended caterers who create elegant seasonal canapés. We also have an excellent wine list to choose from.

Full waiter service can be provided for serving both drinks and canapés.

AFTERNOON TEA

An afternoon tea reception is a delightful way to celebrate your wedding. Everyone is seated at round tables within the shade of the marquee. The scrumptious tea is served on vintage china and again waiter can be provided.

EARL’S APARTMENT

In the colder months, Lord and Lady Edward welcome the wedding party for drinks and canapés in the Earl’s Apartments within the hall.

Beginning life as the Tudor Long Gallery, this double aspect room with adjoining small antechamber became the private living quarters of the Earls’ of Rutland before the family left the Haddon to reside in the main family seat of Belvoir Castle.

This grand suite of rooms decorated with family portraits and tapestries is a glorious place to enjoy drinks and canapés, in privacy.

THE HADDON RESTAURANT

The Haddon Hall Restaurant found on the first floor of the Tudor stable block at the entrance to Haddon is available for a post ceremony meal for up to 70 people, after 6pm.

The room is a nice, bright airy space that will be styled for the occasion by our talented wedding team.

Drinks immediately before dinner can be enjoyed outside under our glamorous umbrellas, where the wedding party can enjoy the last of the evening sun and the peaceful view of the River Wye.

Our chef can provide a wide range of menus and different catering options, including a delicious tasting menu for your matrimonial meal. There is also a broad range of wines, champagnes and sparkling wines available to be enjoyed from the wine list.

The styling and table linen are included in the hire of the Restaurant venue.

Our wedding team will connect you directly to our restaurant team for you to meet and discuss your wishes.

In the finer weather of June, July and August and we would recommend hosting your post ceremony celebrations in Haddon’s Tudor Walled Gardens.

Haddon’s gardens are renowned for their beauty, structure and views are arranged in a series of terraces, retained by enormous buttressed stonewalls that cascade down to the River Wye.

Begun in the 12th Century, the gardens were remodeled into their current form by Robert Smythson, the Elizabethan craftsman, who adapted them to compliment the Long Gallery completed in the 1580s.

In the 1930s, the 9th Duchess of Rutland planted a garden that became famous for roses. Recently, Arne Mayanard, the Chelsea Gold award-winning gardener, was commissioned to update the garden. He has created a paradise of wild flower meadow borders punctuated with Hawthorn and Beech topiary; a knot garden that frames jewel plants appropriate to the Elizabethan period; and has broadened and updated the borders on the Bowling Green and Fountain Terrace.

During the summer months a vintage style marquee is erected on the Bowling Green Terrace reserved for brides and grooms and this is a lovely spot to enjoy drinks and canapes or to host an afternoon tea.

Garden hire includes all garden furniture, table linen, glassware and flowers. We can also provide lawn games to occupy any children amongst the guests.

HADDON’S TUDOR WALLED GARDENS

Haddon is a deeply romantic venue and a photographer’s paradise. Ian Daisley, is our recommended photographer and knows the house like the back of his hand having photographed it on many public and private occasions for Lord and Lady Edward.

Ian is delighted to make a private appointment with any future bride and groom who wish to be married at Haddon, to show them idyllic spots for the all important photos in the garden and the Hall. Alternatively, if you have a preferred photographer, Haddon is happy is to allow this and for the photographer to visit the hall for a preceremony recce.

PHOTOGRAPHY

This award-winning boutique hotel forms part of the Haddon estate, and features on Mr and Mrs Smith and in Alex Polizzi’s Black Book. The hotel is a mere five-minute journey through the Estate from the Hall.

The Peacock has two immaculately decorated private dining rooms, The Derwent Room and Wye Room, available for private parties from 4 to 20 guests. Relax in the privacy of your own dining room with care and attention from our

team. For private dining over 20 people and exclusive use of the hotel contact The Peacock directly.

The hotel has 14 en-suite bedrooms and one suite, making it a perfect place for a wedding party to stay and enjoy celebrating from morning until night.

ACCESSIBILITYWe welcome all visitors but please note that access for visitors with disabilities and wheelchair users is very restricted. Due to the age and nature of Haddon Hall, there are many uneven floors and steps with the house and gardens, this should be kept in mind before booking. Please refer to our access statement for more information. As a courtesy to your guests please enlighten them with this information. We would advise that very high heels would not be suitable for either yourselves or guests.

CONFETTIHaddon Hall is a certified organic site, something that we take great pride in as an institution. This means that we can only permit biodegradable confetti to be thrown in celebration. This can be bought directly from us and can be provided on the day. Any other confetti thrown shall incur a fine of £500. Confetti may not be thrown in the hall.

MUSIC AND MUSICIANSWe have a fully adaptable dock for music to be played during your celebration.

We also have a wide range of recommended musicians that can provide you with live music.

SMOKINGSmoking is not permitted in the Hall or gardens.

Our designated smoking area is to the front of the hall outside the stable block. Any guest found smoking in the hall or garden will be asked to leave.

PRIVATE TOURS AND BESPOKE WEDDINGS.Creating your perfect day is our primary aim. This means we are happy to discuss any bespoke requests with you to tailor the days to your wishes. Recently, we have held a magnificent Tudor wedding for a bride and groom which was great fun and increasingly been asked to provide private tours for the guests pre and post the ceremony. We were delighted to do both, so please do not hesitate to ask us if you have unusual ideas to personalize your day.

SMALL CEREMONIES FOR TWO OR FOUR.We are increasingly aware that for some deeply private wedding is what they wish for. We have held many a service for two with witnesses provide from the Hall staff as well as an intimate ceremony for four.
