  • What is a habitat? A habitat is a place where a plant or animal lives. Just like you have a home or place to live, so do animals and plants. A fish, for example, needs clean water to live. A grasshopper, however, needs a big space where it can hop and leaves that it can eat.

  • Grasslands Grasslands are large areas of grasses, flowers and herbs. In the middle of North America is a grassland called the North American Prairie. Click the pictures to learn more about it!

  • Grassland Weather Summers are warm and humid. Winters are cold but not to the extreme. The average temperature for the prairie in January is 20 F, and 70 F in July. It rains 10-30 inches a year.

  • Grassland Animals Prairie dogs live in Grasslands They have brown fur and flat tails They have round heads with large eyes and tiny ears They weigh between 1 to 3 pounds They burrow their homes in the ground for protection They eat grasses and herbs

  • Rainforest Weather The rainy season is from December till May when it rains all the time and the temperature is cooler A Rainforest gets around 150 cm of rain a year The dry season is from June till November. The average temperature ranges from 85-95 degrees.

  • Rainforest Animals Red-Eye tree frogs live in Rainforests They eat insects like crickets and they also eat smaller frogs They live near water so their offspring (babies) with survive Males grow to be 2 cm Females grow to be 3-4 cm
