Right from the Junior classes students are encouraged to take part in presentations in the classroom and for the morning assembly. The senior students have taken part in several interschool sports events and have already managed to bring back prizes in swimming and table tennis. We also drew on the resources of some of our outstanding alumni who were extremely generous with their time. The hockey players and the Chairman of the Senate Mr. Raza Rabbani came to the school on different occasions and encouraged the students with their expertise and motivating words. Dear Readers,

We are once again proud to share with you the achievements of our incredibly multi-talented student body.

Right from the Junior classes students are encouraged to take part in presentations in the classroom and for the morning assembly. We aim to develop in our students some necessary life skills such as personal grooming (hand washing, dental care), personal safety (a special police force presentation) and public speaking through various elocution competitions including the Model United Nations. These will be necessary assets for them in their future lives.

Our sports program has been further strengthened with more focused training. The gymnastics classes have met with a lot of enthusiasm among the young students and we were treated to a display of their litheness and agility. The senior students have taken part in several interschool sports events and have already managed to bring back prizes in swimming and table tennis.

We also drew on the resources of some of our outstanding alumni who were extremely generous with their time. The hockey players and the Chairman of the Senate Mr. Raza Rabbani came to the school on different occasions and encouraged the students with their expertise and motivating words.

Junior Section Independence Day Independence Day is an occasion for the Habibians to display their patriotic spirit, sing national songs, and carry the Pakistani flag with honour. We celebrated the day on August 13, 2015.

The flag of our country was proudly hoisted by the students. Various presentations were organized in the form of skits, tableaus, national songs and speeches.

A cake was also cut and distributed among the students in celebration.

Defence Day Defence Day is celebrated in the memory of national heroes who sacrificed their lives for the motherland in 1965, Pakistan-India War.

Habibians started their day with special prayers for the peace and prosperity of Pakistan. A tableau was performed by class II on “Rahe haq kay shaheedon”, and class III did one on “Ham zinda quom hain”. A few students also gave speeches to pay tribute to the martyrs of 1965.

Hobby Clubs The objective of establishing the hobby clubs is to encourage the students to develop literary, artistic, scientific and social interpersonal skills.

The first Hobby Club started on August 18, 2015. Students of Class V joined various clubs based on their interest and showed great excitement and eagerness.

We have different Hobby Clubs like Geography, Calligraphy, Art, Photography, English, Urdu, Science, Dance, Scrabble and Chess.

Students attend these clubs after school every week on Mondays. The vocabulary of the students of the Scrabble club has been enriched through this game. Several artistic pieces have been crafted by the students in clay at the Art hobby club. The gardening group was given hands on opportunities to plant vegetable seeds and cared for them as they grew carrots, brinjal, cabbage and spinach.

Kangaroo Mathematics Contest The International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest (IKMC) is a source of intellectual stimulation for all the young boys. It gives the students an opportunity to express their grasp of the basic mathematical concepts. It helps them to understand how mathematics applies in nature’s laws and humans' lives.

These tests also develop their ability to derive pleasure and satisfaction through intellectual activities and show that mathematics is essential in every aspect of life.

Around 250 Habibians of the Junior Section participated in the Kangaroo contest. Three Habibians won a bronze medal.

Prefects’ Tie Distribution Prefects were appointed in the Junior Section on September 28, 2015. Ties were awarded to the students of class V who scored the highest marks in the Final Exams. They were given the roles of School Captain, Deputy School Captain, House Captains and Prefects.

The Head Teacher distributed the Ties and assigned them different responsibilities.

Hand Washing Activity To emphasize the importance of hand washing, informative and practical sessions were conducted for classes I and II by Dr Ayesha Usman and her team on September 16, 2015.

The students were taught that frequent and proper hand washing is the first line of defense against the spread of common communicable infections, from the common cold and diarrhea to more serious diseases such as meningitis, influenza and hepatitis A.

Dental Hygiene Session The session on Dental Hygiene was conducted by Dr. Shazia, assisted by Dr. Devi, Ms. Sumaira and Ms. Samina on November 28, 2015.

Dr. Shazia with her medical staff briefed the students about dental hygiene and taught

them proper brushing methods.

Little Champs – Art & Creative Competition The students of Habib Public School participated

in the Creative Art competition 2015, organized

by A2Z little champs. The theme of this

competition was ‘Mother, Nothing is considered

to be better than a mother as she is an invaluable

blessing of Allah’. The students participated in

this competition with their brilliant ideas of card

making and won different prizes.

- M. Huzaifa Luqman of class 1 secured 2nd

position and received a cash prize of Rs.

10,000.

- Sheikh Yusha of class V received a gold

medal.

- M. Asshal Nisar and Umer Farooqi of

class III won a bronze medal.

Field Trip Field trips play an important role in the physical and mental development of children. The HPS arranged trips for all the classes of the Junior Section. The students visited different famous places of Karachi during school hours. Classes I, II and III took along note books to the Zoo to collect information about the animals they saw.

The next day they wrote essays about the animals of their choice. Classes IV and V visited the National Museum, Quaid-e-Azam’s Tomb and Mohatta Palace. They too made notes about each place and wrote about their experience.

Orientation Session An orientation session was held for the parents of Class I students on August 4, 2015. The main purpose of this session was to share the school’s vision, policies and rules to be followed by the students and parents. The head teacher explained the methods of teaching and the school facilities which are used to enhance students’ learning. She introduced the teachers to the parents of new admissions. The Deputy Head Teacher shared the plans of session 2015-16 and discussed the activities and curriculum of class I. They were also briefed regarding the assessment procedure. Their queries were addressed at the end of the session by the Vice Principal.

Annual Talent Show The Junior Section of Habib Public School organized a talent show on Tuesday April 28th 2015. This event enabled our students to display their talents that left an overwhelming impression on the audience. The event was organized with great zeal and fervor which

filled the school ambience with music and colours. The show started shortly after the National Anthem and the recitation of the Holy Quran. First event was a performance by the students who were dressed in white kurta shalwar and did a tableau on “Hamd”.

Following this was a dance performance in which all the guests were welcomed in a Japanese way. Colorful fans, Japanese music, costumes and dance filled the stage with Japanese culture.

Students prepared a story about imaginary birds, sneetches.

Our students took the guests for a journey around the world. Several dances that depicted different nations such as Mexican, Russian and African were performed by the young students.

Other acts including aerobic dance, qawali, comedy, Animal Farm play and Mind Your Language were also included in the show.

Urdu comedy and drama were an integral part of the show and ended up as a great success.

Solo performances of different items were sung by Saad Nadeem, Ahzam Ali and Usman Ali Baksh which impressed the audience.

Honoring Allama Iqbal A tableau on Allama Iqbal’s Poem “Chand aur Tara” was presented by the students of class I on November 20, 2015. The children dressed in different character costumes and acted out the words of the poem with the song playing in the background.

Gymnastic Performances The morning assembly gave a healthy start to the day with an astounding show of fitness and skill. The presentation was organized by Coach Muhammad Mazhar who is a national player of gymnastics and is also a gold medalist.

The participants included Hunza, Huzaifa, Abdul Rehman, Mubashir, Nad, Ayyan, Abdullah, Arham, Abbas, Ali Raza, and Hayder

Safety mattresses were laid on the floor and all the safety precautions were kept in mind before the performance started. The activity commenced with a quick warm up. The students performed back-rolls, cartwheels, handspring, back flips and back summersault. The routines were both mesmerizing and breathtaking as they clearly required technique and practice to be carried out smoothly. Everyone was impressed by the students who participated and the presentation was concluded with an intense applause by the staff and pupils.

Senior Section

Independence Day 2015 As Pakistan's 69th Independence Day came

around, Habibians like always, celebrated it with a lot of pride. The Programme was scheduled for Monday 13th August 2015 at the Gymnasium. Habibians were waving national flags to express their patriotic fervor. The show of patriotism also included clothes, and other memorabilia bedecked in the hallmark green and white, to represent the national flag.

With the playing of the National Anthem of Pakistan by the School Brass Band the Programme officially started. Habibians took their pledge after a recitation from the Quran. Habibians took part in the following events:

- National Songs both, groups & solo - Urdu & English Speeches

In the end Vice Principal Ms. Shahwar Ahmad shared her views about the day with the audience and appreciated the Habibians’ for their love for the country. The Independence Day Celebration programme ended with prayers for the prosperity of Pakistan.

Defence Day Celebration September 6th, Pakistan’s Youm-e-Difa is a day when we pay tribute to our heroic soldiers of the Indo-Pak war of 1965.

The National day was celebrated with special prayers for all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty and prosperity of the Nation. During the morning assembly students presented tableaus depicting the war and the situation at the borders in 1965.

They also expressed the support of the citizens for the armed forces during the war with the famous National song “Jag utha hai sara watan”. The purpose of these events was to inspire the Habibians to appreciate their motherland and to build feelings of patriotism.

Death Anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam M. Ali Jinnah The Death anniversary of Muhammad Ali Jinnah was observed on 11th September 2015. A few students visited the Morning Assembly pretending to be Quaid e Azam, Muhtarma Fatima Jinnah, Quaid e Millat Liaquat Ali Khan and the old pilot guards. Habibian Muhammad Raza Ali received them as a host being the parade commander. Quaid e Azam joined the morning assembly and delivered his speech which was an extract of his words he had said on education. After the speech, he was requested to inspect the School Cadet Corps.

The event was so emotionally powerful that everyone could feel the presence of the Father

of the Nation and felt motivated by his historic words.

Achievements Maritime Poster Contest Three Habibians participated in a contest organized by National Centre of Maritime Policy Research at Bahria University.

Out of 87 entries from all over Karachi Habibian Hassan Bin Kamran won 3rd position and a cash prize of 7,000 from the Federal Minister for Port and Shipping – Mr Kamran Michel.

Best Delegate Award at BAY MUN A team of Habibians participated at the Bay

View Model United Nations. Of the 300

delegates Shahpar Nafees received the Best

Delegate Award.

S.M Murataza and Uzair Quereshi received

Honory Mention Certifcates, M.Ahsan received

Best Position Paper and Saad Zafar was

recognized as Special Mention.

Karachi Youth MUN S. M Husnain and Areeb Zafar received the

Best Delegate Awards at Karachi Youth Model

United Nations.

Beacon MUN Beacon Model United Nations was held at Beacon House PECHS campus from 13th- 15th November. More than 500 delegates from O and A level schools participated in the event. Areeb Zafar was invited to chair The United Nations Human Rights Council at the event, and served as the Assistant Committee Director. Bilingual Declamation This competition was held at SKBZ O & A levels School DHA. Twenty-two renowned schools participated. Habibian S.M. Daniyal Raza from X- A won the 1st prize in Urdu declamation.

Obhartay Sitaray Every year, TCF organizes an Inter School Singing Competition ‘Obhartay Sitaray’. Several schools participated in the competition.

Habibian Azhar Zaidi secured 2nd position for his song ‘Aey

Watan kay Sajeelay Jawanon’. Along with the winning shield he was awarded a music book.

Aitchison International Art Festival Students from HPS participated in this competition. Teams from India, Korea and China were also among the contenders. The categories were Photography, Film making and Still Life.

The Habibian team won the 1st prize in Film making.

Inter-College Bilingual Declamation Contest Baharia College (NORE 1) organized this event. Habibians Qazi Muhammad Talha for English and S.M. Daniyal Raza for Urdu participated.

Total of 31 renowned colleges took part in this contest. The English speaker Habibian Qazi M. Talha received a special award.

A2Z Art Competition The students of the senior section participated in

the Creative Art competition 2015, organized by

A2Z little champs. The theme of this

competition was Mother. Twenty-eight students

participated in card making while eight students

took part in essay writing. Sheikh Abdul Rafay

of class VII- O won a silver medal and

Yashwant Kumar of class IX A won the bronze

medal in card making.

The art teacher of senior section was also

awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 for the

support.

Inter-School Public Speaking Competition The Korangi Academy organized an Inter-School Public Speaking competition in affiliation with the Centre of Development of Social Services and Infaq Foundation. The School Captain, Areeb Zafar, won the Audience Choice Award and a cash prize of Rs. 2,000. Qazi Talha won the first prize and a cash prize of Rs 5,000. Habib Public School won the Championship Trophy.

Explore Pakistan 2015 A group of thirty one students from classes 8-11 and four staff members went on a recreational and educational tour of Pakistan from the 28th of May to the 11th of June 2015.

They toured the Kewra Salt Mines, explored the Buddah University and were fascinated by the stupas at Taxila. They stayed 3 nights at the youth hostel in Bhurban and visited the nearby stations and chair lifts. They picnicked at the Neelum River near Muzafferabad. They also played with snow at Jheel Saif-ul-Muluk. The Pakistan Rangers arranged special protocol for our students to watch the flag lowering ceremony at Wahga Border. Their visit to the Senate and the National Assembly was the highlight of the trip. The Chairman Senate Mr. Raza Rabbani (alumnus – Habib Public School) organized this visit for the 8th of June.

All the students were honored with a book of the Constitution of Pakistan. They were taken on a tour of the Senate Picture Gallery where they were briefed by the officials about the Political History of Pakistan. Then they were

taken to the chamber of the Chairman Senate where a shield of honor was awarded to Habib Public School on behalf of the Federation of Pakistan.

The School Year books were sent to the President of Pakistan, Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Speaker National Assembly.

The School Results The Top Scorers of Cambridge International Syndicate Hadi Askari secured 12 straight A’s.

39 students out of the batch of 65 scored 5-A’s and above.

The Agha Khan University Examination SSC 37 students out of a batch of 75 scored A and A+ overall.

Bagh Hoti and Ismail Ibrahim scored 1st position in Principle of Accounts.

High Achiever for HSSC M. Ghazanfar Sakrani scored first position in Principle of Commerce in HSSC.

Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (S.A.W.W.) The Eid-e-Milad un Nabi (SAWW) 1436 was celebrated in the month of Rabi-u-Aawal.

Both Senior and Junior Sections organized the event separately. Students recited Salams and Na’ats and delivered speeches emphasizing the life and lessons taught to humanity and paid tribute to the Prophet Muhammad PBUH. After the programme tabbrauk was distributed to the staff and students.

Youm-e-Hussain (A.S.) The 40th Annual Youm-e-Hussain (A.S) was organized in the school on Thursday, November 5, 2015. The first session was conducted by the Junior Section. Students from class I to V recited Nohas, Salams and delivered speeches about Waqia-e- Karbala.

In the second session the students of Senior Section participated. Students recited Nohas, Salams and delivered speeches in English and Urdu. A Scholar from Qum, Mr. Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi was the guest speaker on the occasion. He highlighted the events of Karbala and the lessons we learn from this noble

sacrifice.

Tabarruk was distributed to the students and the entire staff after the programme.

Convocation 2015 The Habib Public School’s Convocation for the Class of 2015 (O-Level, SSC, HSSC) was held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the HPS-Gymnasium.

A total of 173 students were awarded degrees in various disciplines/programs. They were also awarded shields on the basis of their outstanding academic and co-curricular performances.

The Convocation was attended by Trustees, Members of the Habib Family, the parents of the graduating students as well as many Educationists, Dignitaries, and various Alumni. The Honorable Chairman Senate Mr. Raza Rabbani (alumni 1968) was the Chief Guest on the occasion. His batch mates were especially invited to attend. The chief guest was welcomed with the National Anthem, followed by a Guard of Honor.

Principal Habib Schools, Mrs. Nargis Alavi said that it was a source of pride for HPS to recognize its outstanding alumni. Vice Principal Mrs. Shahwar Ahmad addressed the audience and shared the progress report of the School. Delivering the convocation address, Mr. Raza Rabbani said that “HPS is not just an academic institution but an idea and a vision. It provides education and extracurricular activities on the same ground”. He showed great respect for his previous teachers and the institution for its contributions to Pakistan. “We are fortunate that this institution came into being, exists till today and has become better over the years.

Inter School Competitions

Following in the tradition of hosting inter-school events, this year too, we hosted the Bilingual Declamation, Pakistan Quiz, National Songs, Arts and Urdu Fehmi. In all these events, the leading Schools participated. Habibians participated but didn’t contest for the trophies.

Inter House Competitions

Art Competition Habibians participated with their great enthusiasm in this competition.

Red House scored the first position, Green House 2nd and Blue House got 3rd position.

Bait Bazi Competition All participants came up with complete preparation which led to an exciting competition.

Green House took the lead.

Bilingual Declamation Each house was represented by a team of 4 speakers for both English and Urdu categories. A debating series went on in two

different categories for each Urdu and English. Green House took the first position.

Husn e Qirat- o- Naat Students’ representatives from each house participated in the event. Selected passages from Holy Quran Naat-e-Rasool Maqbool PBUH were recited.

Students delivered verses of the Holy Quran with fluency and beautiful enunciation. They also articulated appreciation of the qualities of the Holy Prophet PBUH through Naát.

National Songs and Pakistan Quiz Competition The event was held on September 17th, 2015.

Blue house took first position among all the houses.

Urdu Fehmi Competition The last wave of the Inter-House competition was Urdu Fehmi. The competition was based on 3 different rounds by which the students were assessed through different tasks as dictation of difficult words, guessing proverbs, poetry identification of second stanza,

and in the last round the identification of famous personality through hints. Green House won the competition.

SSU Training at HPS The Special Security Unit organized a full day training session for Habib Schools at Razzaqabad Police Station. This was to help the school enhance security for our students. Teachers, S.M. Raza, Haider Abbas and administrator Tahir Alam attended the session. In connection with the same training, the SSU also arranged a session for students and other staff at HPS on November 26, 2015.

The purpose of the training is to provide knowledge for taking security measures to avoid any mishap in/outside the school premises.

A team from the Special Security Unit (SSU) of the police gave a presentation. • Introduction of Weapons • Demonstration of Attack • Self Defense • Tactical Encounter • Panic Control • Exit Management. The students were made aware of the possible threats they might face and the most effective measures they can use to defend themselves.

I Am Karachi Organized an event titled ‘Childrens’ Museum for Peace and Human Rights’ at the Rangoonwala Hall.

The aim of the event was to promote a peaceful environment in the city. Different activities were performed by the students

such as a discussion session and art work to convey the message of peace. The students were provided with cutouts of a dove (fakhta)on which they can write their messages to spread peace and place them any where they wish.

Students of Habib Public School participated in the art activity and created peace messages in picture form.

Later a similar session was conducted at the school premises. The students of classes VI- VIII wrote their personalized peace messages and pasted them at different places in school and delivered speeches about what steps could be taken to make a better and more peaceful city.

Habib Public High School Election Day Habib Public High School has always endeavored to resolve its student’s academic and non-academic issues. Every year HPHS selects one College Captain and two Deputy Captains from the nominated candidates and this year the college added one more post, ‘Sports Captain’.

On Thursday September 17th 2015, students voted for their favorite candidate. It was a cut throat competition among ten candidates of grade XI and XII. The votes were cast on the Election Day on college premises under the supervision of election committee. (Ms. Shialla

Murtuza, and the teachers). Voting procedure was completed on the same day.

The results were announced on the next day Taha Murtaza Gain was elected as the College Captain.

Urdu Declamation All Karachi Inter College, organized Urdu Declamation on 6thof November 2015.

The programme was organized by Pakistan Steel Cadet College to give tribute to our great poet, leader and dreamer of Pakistan (Allama Muhammad Iqbal). The contest commenced at 9:30 a.m. with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by the speech of Pakistan Steel Cadet College Principal. Competition continued till 11:15 a.m. The speech of all debaters bewitched the audience and all participants were extremely praised. Subsequently, the Chief Guest gave his vote of thanks and expressed his views about the ‘Poet of East’.

At the end results were announced and shields were awarded to the winners. M.Ghazanfar Sakrani Habib Public High School took the third position.

Orientation – Habib University On September 1st, 2015 representatives of Habib University. Mr. Asim and Mr. Ali Jaffery visited HPHS to introduce their University and

faculty. The main aim of this session was to let students know about new disciplines which they can choose for their further study Mr. Ali Jaffery Manager student Marketing and Recruitment briefed about the University.

The session commenced with an activity Students were told about the admission criterion and scholarship program for which they can apply. By the end of the session students gave their feedback by filling a questionnaire.

Sports at HPS

Independence Day Celebration Match Gaiety and patriotic fervor marked the 68th Independence Day celebrations at HPS.

The celebrations continued throughout the month of August. Students along with staff members celebrated the event with great enthusiasm.

The highlight of the program was the elocution competition followed by speeches on freedom and liberty and tributes were paid to the personalities who made this possible. Habib Public School invited a team of ex-Habibian professional hockey players to an Exhibition Match against the school team. The team of six Olympians and six International

players were invited to HPS on the 13th of August to play a friendly match with the school team.

The objective of this event was to develop an interest in Hockey and for our students to watch and learn the techniques of world-class hockey playing.

All Pakistan Inter School Swimming Championship HPS Swimming Team Participated in the 10th Mc Donald’s Swimming Championship held in Lahore.

Various schools from all over the country participated in the tournament and HPS was able to secure a bronze medal (3rd Position) in 50 m Breast Stroke.

Inter School Swimming Championship HPS hosted a swimming competition sponsored by Sports for Life in Collaboration with Karachi Swimming Association - KSA.

HPS secured 2nd position amongst various schools participating in the championship from all over the city.

Karachi Junior Table Tennis Championship Sindh Junior Sports Associations organized Karachi Junior Table Tennis Championship where Habibians defeated Shawilayat Public School and got the winning trophy.

These boys have also been selected for the next competition to be played at Sindh level. Habibian M. Saqib has been selected as the Captain for the Karachi Team.

FPS Sports Festival 2015 A sports’ festival was organized by Foundation Public School. Habib Public School participated in the festival and took the following positions.

- 1st position in Athletics 2 Gold Medals 3 Silver medals 3 Bronze Medals

- 1st position in Table Tennis.

- 3rd position in the Football Tournament

Athletics Achievements Athletics competition was organized by Karachi School Association for two age groups.

- Junior Section secured 1st position - Middle Section secured 2nd position.

HPS participated in Sindh Track and Field Athletics Championship 2015and won the following medals.

- 3 Gold medals - 2 Silver medals

Rashidabad (Tando Allah Yar) Tour

Tour of Rashidabad was organized on 9th and

10th of September 2015. HPS participated in

Hockey and Swimming.

HPS won the swimming competition.

KVTC Volunteer Service HPS Basket Ball and Table Tennis Teams

volunteered to demonstrate basketball and table

tennis skills to the special children. A platform

was created where people suffering from all

forms of disability and general public came

together to display and demonstrate their talents

and skills in the field of sports and other walks of

life. The members of the HPS Basketball team were:

Haque Academy Atheletics Championship 2015 Inter School Athletics Championship 2015 was held at Haque Academy. HPS secured 1st position with 67 points.
