3.2 HYDRAULIC CHARACTERISTICS

Information about the workings of LAGARDE hydraulic trimmers:

The pressurised oil from the pump of your tractor or your harvesting machinegoes through the control distributor then successively supplies the variousmotors of the machine. Each of these motors absorbs part of the availablepressure.

For normal operation, the tractor (or harvesting machine) must have the followinghydraulic characteristics:

● Min pressure: 120 to 150 bar (machines with 3 or 4 motors) 160 to 190 bar(machines with 6 or 7 motors)● Max pressure: 200 bar● Min flow rate: 16 litres (for a blade rotation speed of 1500 rpm, which is thethreshold value for a good-quality trim)● Max flow rate: 35 litres (for a blade rotation speed of 3200 rpm, which is themaximum allowable motor speed; in order not to damage the motors, themachine has a flow regulator which eliminates surplus flow if it exceeds 38 lit-res/min).

Page 14: H series Trimmer - Sonicrainbowa/h_series_manual.pdf · LAGARDE H series trimmers are driven by the pressurised oil provided by the hydraulic circuit of the tractor. If necessary,

● The thickness and quality of steel of the cutting blades ensure they cannotbreak (in normal conditions of use). The blades are mounted onto threadedpins and are held by 2 elastic rings, enabling the disengagement of the bladesin the event of a violent shock.

The threaded pins holding the blades have a right-hand thread or a left-hand thread,so that the rotation direction imparts a torque in the direction in which the pin is tur-ning. This makes the system impossible to come loose. When the blades are chan-ged, the pins must be retightened with a torque of 7 daN/m.

● The hydraulic control distributor has an integrated pressure limiter capable oftaking over from the one on the tractor if the machine pressure rises (motorjammed).● A flow regulator placed at the inlet of the hydraulic circuit filters the flowrequired for the machine and returns surplus flow to the tank.● Removable protective housing for the cutting blades.● Red and white labelling in the periphery of the blade rotation.● Anti-projection screen supplied with the HL and HR rear-mounted models.● The vertical cylinders are equipped with safety valves preventing the machi-ne from falling if a hose breaks.

4.4 BLOCKING (JAMMING)

When the vegetation is too thick, or if you go too fast, the vegetation may becomejammed between the blades and the protective housing. To unblock the machine: leave the row, disengage the motor command, switch ofthe engine, put on protective gloves and remove the vegetation.

4.5 LINKAGE ATTACHMENT

4.5.1 HR model:

The HR models are used behind a narrow tractor and have a standard 3-point cou-pling system.

4.5.2 HR, HM, HE frontal models, HG and HL (between wheels):

Your dealer has had a specific attachment part made for your tractor. He/she willshow you how to attach your machine under the best possible conditions.

Notice rogneuse H 11-02 GB - page 14

SAFETY RULES TO BE RESPECTED:● Never modify the hydraulic circuit of the machine● Keep the protection and signalling parts of themachine in good order● Comply with the user instructions● In the event of an anomaly, stop the machine andcontact your dealer.

6.5.1 Attachment

Rear-mounted machine: HR model

Your HR trimmer is coupled to the lifting arms of thetractor. First reverse the tractor to place the machinebetween the fork yokes, then slide in the pins and putthe third point in place. Position and connect thehydraulic control distributor.

Other models:

The HE, HM, HG and HR trimmers are mounted on the attachment parts provi-ded by your dealer. It is up to you to check the following points:

● The trimmer must be rigid enough in relation tothe tractor (or harvesting machine); the attachmentmust be able to absorb the stress caused by theweight and inertia of the machine.● The presence of the trimmer on the tractor mustnot modify greatly or dangerously the centre ofgravity of the assembly. You must pay particularattention to this point.● The rotating blades turn very fast and are ofgreat danger to people.

Page 18: H series Trimmer - Sonicrainbowa/h_series_manual.pdf · LAGARDE H series trimmers are driven by the pressurised oil provided by the hydraulic circuit of the tractor. If necessary,

In the absence of a protective devicepreventing access to the blades, theposition of the machine on the tractorshould be such that there is a mini-mum distance of 850 mm between adefined theoretical zone and one ormore blades. With rear-mounted HRand HL trimmers, the provision of asafety screen renders this rule obs-olete.

6.6 CONNECTION TO ENERGY SUPPLIES

6.6.1 Connecting the trimmer:

Preliminary precautions:

The operating life of the trimmer's gear motors depends on the quality andquantity of oil used.

Quality of oil:

Before carrying out any connections, make sure the quality and cleanness ofthe tractor oil is satisfactory. If this is not the case, it is necessary to filter orchange the oil.

We recommend using a multipurpose, good-quality hydraulic oil such as:

MOBILAND SUPER XHP 10W40 ESSO FARM'S 10W40SHELL HARVELLA TX 10W40 Or equivalent

Contact your tractor dealer to make sure these oils are compliant.

Quantity of oil:

The quantity of oil required for the good working of your trimmer depends onthe pump flow rate of your tractor. We recommend a quantity of oil equal to twice the flow rate.

Notice rogneuse H 11-02 GB - page 18

Reach zone

SIP (in accordancewith EN2535)Theoretical zone

THE CLEANNESS OF THE OIL USED TO OPERATE YOURLAGARDE TRIMMER IS A CRUCIAL FACTOR IN ITS CORRECTWORKING AND LONGEVITY.TO AVOID ANY GUARANTEE DISPUTE OR REFUSAL IN THEVENT OF A DAMAGED HYDRAULIC MOTOR, WE ADVISE YOUTO PLACE A PRESSURE FILTER AT THE MACHINE CIRCUITINLET IF YOU ARE UNSURE AS TO THE CLEANNESS OFYOUR OIL (CONSULT YOUR DEALER OR OUR TECHNICALDEPARTMENT).

E.g.: tractor pump flow rate 25 litresOil reserve required 50 litres

You should check the oil level on the tractor underframe and, if necessary, addthe necessary quantity.

Connection:

Depending on the type of trimmer and its options, the type of connection mayvary. There are several possible cases:

Notice rogneuse H 11-02 GB - page 19

THE DRAINAGE PIPE MUST HAVE A DIRECT RETURN FLOWTO THE OIL TANK. DO NOT USE A QUICK COUPLER. DO NOTCONNECT TO THE MOTOR RETURN FLOW HOSES.

7.2 SETTINGS

For optimum output and a good finish, your trimmer should be properly adjusted.

7.2.1 Adjustment

During adjustment operations, it may be necessary to remove the protective hou-sings of the cutting blades. Be careful, as the blades are particularly sharp.

A Adjusting the cutting panels:

For reasons of transportation, ourmachines are reduced to the mini-mum possible size. Before you takethe machine into the vines, you mustfirst adjust the relative cutting positionso that the blades do not come intocontact with each other (top trim bla-des and side trim blades) and themachine has the cutting profile yourequire.

a. Adjusting the relative position of the cutting elements

This is done by unscrewing theattachment fittings on each cuttingpanel, then adjusting them so thatthe vertical (side) and horizontal bla-des do not come into contact witheach other and the space betweenthem does not let vegetationthrough.

Notice rogneuse H 11-02 GB - page 25

b. Adjusting the angle of the cuttingsides

Our machines allow the user to profile the cutaccording to requirements.Possible tilt: +/- 15°

This adjustmentis done via theupper joint byunscrewing bolts1 and 2, tilting the cuttingside, then retightening.

Special case of the HG model

B Adjustments prior to use

Before going into the vine rows, you must first adjust thecutting height and spacing of the machine.

a. Cutting height

Once the machine has been placed in front of the row with the hydraulic motorswitched off and the user seated in the driver's cab, use the hydraulic or elec-tric distributor to activate the vertical cylinder of the machine. Lift or lower themachine to the required cutting height.

b. Spacing

I. Manual adjustment of the spacing

This operation should be performed by the user with the tractor switched offand the ignition key withdrawn. The cutting elements are spaced by sliding the male tubes that hold the cuttingpanels into the female tubes of the chassis (HR/HM/HL models). On the HEmodel, it is the female tube that slides over the male tube of the chassis.Spacing and tube-sliding operations first involve unscrewing the screws thatimmobilise the tubes.

Page 27: H series Trimmer - Sonicrainbowa/h_series_manual.pdf · LAGARDE H series trimmers are driven by the pressurised oil provided by the hydraulic circuit of the tractor. If necessary,

II. Hydraulic adjustment of thespacing

This operation is performed withthe user sitting in the driver's caband with the hydraulic motorsswitched off, by moving the right-hand or left-hand lever of thehydraulic distributor or the electriccontrol that commands the spa-cing cylinders.

Special case of the HG model

The HG model has a mast that is articulated atthe base. Height-adjustment, spacing or titlingoperations are performed by acting successive-ly on the machine’s three cylinders, via thehydraulic or electric distributor or via the tractorcontrols.

III. Adjusting the shoes or wheels (HR model)

The HR models have shoes fitted asstandard and simple wheels or bogiewheels as an option.

The shoes and simple wheels have theirspacing adjusted by sliding, and areblocked into position by a pressurescrew that needs to be unscrewed andretightened with each adjustment.

The boggie wheels have adjustable spacing, extension and angular movement. As described above, these adjustments are done by unscrewing and retighte-ning the pressure screws or stop screws.

Angular movement adjustment

Page 28: H series Trimmer - Sonicrainbowa/h_series_manual.pdf · LAGARDE H series trimmers are driven by the pressurised oil provided by the hydraulic circuit of the tractor. If necessary,

IV. Independent adjustment of top trim (HE, HR and HL option)

As an option, certain models can havetheir top trim adjusted vertically, inde-pendently of the side trim. This is desi-gned for users who have both low andhigh vines.

The vertical adjustment is carried out by loosening thepressure screw (1) then releasing the pin (2) from thetube and positioning the cut to the desired height. Putthe pin back in, then retighten the pressure screw.

V. Anti-tilt adjustment (option onHL and HR 300 models)

The anti-tilt adjustment is performedby activating the hydraulic distributorcontrol.

VI. Anti-tilt adjustment (HMmodel)

Release the pin, adjust the tilt andreplace the pin

VII. Raising the cutting panels byintegral pivoting - tilt adjustment(HE model)

As well as the possibility of adjus-ting the cutting height (simultaneousaction on the 2 adjustment cylinders),the chassis of our HE models alsooffer the possibility of:

● Correcting the effects of slo-pes by activating only one cylin-der● Raising and pivoting themachine upwards by retractingboth vertical cylinders fully.

7.3 STARTING UP THE MACHINE

7.3.1 Prior inspections

Before using your trimmer, make sure you check the following points:

● The presence of all the protective devices● The pressure and condition of the tyres● The good condition of the cutting tools● The absence of oil leaks

7.3.2 Removing the protection of the cutting blades

After removing the blade protections, store them in a place where you can easilyfind them again after using the machine.

Notice rogneuse H 11-02 GB - page 30

Page 31: H series Trimmer - Sonicrainbowa/h_series_manual.pdf · LAGARDE H series trimmers are driven by the pressurised oil provided by the hydraulic circuit of the tractor. If necessary,

7.3.3 Starting up the motors - blade rotation

The motors are started up by engaging thelever of the hydraulic distributor or the electricbutton.

To protect the motor parts, it is recommendedto start the motors with a medium enginerating of the tractor and to increase it gradual-ly until the hydraulic pump of the tractor hasreached its nominal flow rate.

NB: Visual check on the rotation direction.

At low speed it is easy to detect the rotation direction of theblades. Users must check that the rotation direction cor-responds to the following direction:

Top trim: rotation towards the outsideSide cut: upwards

If this is not the case then the hydraulic connection has notbeen done correctly and the blades may come loose. Stop the machine immediately and consult yourdealer.

Notice rogneuse H 11-02 GB - page 31

DANGER: WHEN IN OPERATION, THE BLADES OF OUR TRIM-MERS TURN AT AROUND 2500 RPM. THEY ARE THUS INVI-SIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE AND ARE EXTREMELY DANGE-ROUS FOR ANY PERSON STANDING NEAR THE MACHINE.AS A USER, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR FORBIDDINGANYONE FROM APPROACHING THE MACHINE, PARTICULAR-LY CHILDREN.

START UP THE MOTORS WHEN YOU ARE SEATED IN THEDRIVER'S CAB, WITH THE MACHINE SURROUNDINGS COM-PLETELY CLEAR. IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN TO START UPTHE MACHINE IN THE PRESENCE OR PROXIMITY OF ANO-THER PERSON.

OWING TO ITS FUNCTION, THE TRIMMER IS A DANGEROUSTOOL. SWITCH OFF THE MOTORS IMMEDIATELY IF ANYPERSON COMES WITHIN THE PERIMETER OF USE OF THETRIMMER.

Page 32: H series Trimmer - Sonicrainbowa/h_series_manual.pdf · LAGARDE H series trimmers are driven by the pressurised oil provided by the hydraulic circuit of the tractor. If necessary,

7.3.4 Working speed

The working speed through the vineyard depends on a number of criteria:

● Vegetation density● Ground morphology● Tractor stability● Rotation speed of the blades (dependent on the flow rate supplied).

The range of speeds goes from 2 to 6 km/h. On rough ground, slopes or stony soils, reduce speed as much as possible. Particular care should be taken with straddletractors or harvesting machines, given the height of the overall centre of gravity. At the end of a row and before introducing the machine to a new row, it is advisableto switch off the motors. In the event of a violent shock or an incident (stake, tree, wire caught, etc.), leave the row, switch off both tractor and machine and assess theeffect of the damage on operation and safety. In case of vibrations, twisted blades, damaged safety system, broken hoses, etc.,consult your dealer.

7.3.5 Adjusting the machine

At any moment, it is possible to use the hydraulic or electric levers of the machineto control the cylinders and adjust the position of the cutting elements in relation tothe vegetation.

It is recommended to proceed by carrying out small successive adjustments.

The use of the oil for the control of the machine's cylinders leads to a slight reduc-tion in the rotation speed of the cutting blades. This momentary reduction has noeffect on the cutting quality of the machine.

7.4 STOPPING THE MACHINE

To stop the machine, switch off the hydraulic supply via the distributor control, afterfirst reducing the engine rate of the tractor.

7.4.1 Inspection of the tightness of the machine parts

Despite all the care and attention we put into assembling our machines, after a fewhours of use a gap may have been created between the transmission parts on thechassis or the cutting panels. You should therefore inspect their tightness regularly.

● Machine - tractor attachment● Chassis parts attachments● Cutting protective housing attachments

8 TRANSPORT/MOVEMENT

8.1 TRANSPORT POSITION

To put the machine in the transport position, proceed as follows:

Retract the trimmer as much as possible to ensure its size does not exceed that ofthe tractor or harvesting machine, or keep it within a size under 2.5m. Use the spa-cing cylinders, or, if the machine does not have any, slide in the tubes to bring in thecutting panels after first unscrewing the pressure screws. Retighten the screws afterthis operation.

8.2 DRIVING ON PUBLIC ROADS

If you have to drive on a public road:● Place the machine in transport position in accordance with the instructions inchapter 8.1.● Check the braking devices of the tractor are in good working order.● If the machine should hide the signalling lights or devices of the tractor, youmust compensate for this by making them visible again, either by moving themor by adding equivalent devices (lighting strip, additional registration place,etc.).● On public roads, comply with the highway code.● Respect the maximum dimensions allowed (width, height, length). Shouldyou exceed the authorised dimensions, comply with the regulations in forcewith respect to wide and heavy loads.● Respect the maximum axle load and the total authorised weight. Make surethe load on the front axle is never lower than 20% of the empty tractor weight. If necessary put in place front (or rear) weights.● Keep to the authorised speed limit.

8.3 OPERATING POSITION AFTER TRANSPORT

To restart your machine after transport, refer to chapter 7.2 "Adjustments".

● Specific greasing point: daily greasing.

● HR model: optional wheels kit; wheelpivot axle greasing nipple.● HL and HR 300 models: anti-tilt option:greasing of the support pivot pin.

● Sliding tubes (all models):

The sliding tubes need to be kept greasedpermanently (application with a brush). Inorder to eliminate the dust that gathers in thegrease, a full cleaning operation (with diesel)is recommended at the end of each cam-paign, followed by re-greasing.

10.2.2 Cleaning required due to sap deposit

● Regular cleaning will prevent a lasting build-upof deposit.● To ensure a perfect cut, remove the sap fromthe blades after every cutting operation.

● During cleaning operations, avoid scrat-ching the blade surface (do not use a grin-der, as this will only make the sap stick morestrongly).

10.2.3 Cleaning the cylinders

Particular care must be taken when cleaning the cylinder rods; clean them regularlywith diesel so as not to damage the cylinder seals.

10.2.4 Checks on the hydraulic circuit

One or more connections may have to be retightened after a few hours of use.Perform this operation to avoid fluid leaks, without tightening excessively.

10.2.5 Belt tension

Your trimmer is delivered with 3 special spanners. These spanners are required forthe operations described below.Tensioning of the belts should be done after the first 20 hours of use, then beforeeach period of use if needs be.It is a simple operation that lasts a few minutes.

To retighten the belts, proceed as follows:

Going upwards from the motor towards thecutting side, or downwards, unscrew the 3attachment nuts on each bearing block, thenusing the special spanner, pivot the bearingblock in the opposite direction from themotor. Retighten simultaneously.Proceed in the same way for all the bearingblocks.

WARNING: IF THE BELTS ARE TOOTIGHT OT TOO LOOSE, THEIR LIFEMAY BE REDUCED CONSIDERABLY.

10.3 REPAIRS

Only use spare parts and accessories which are recommended by the manu-facturer.

10.3.1 Changing the blades

To replace a blade, use the wrench, along with a flat spanner to be inserted behindthe blade. Loosen the attachment pinof the blade using the wrench (eitherclockwise or anticlockwise, dependingon whether the thread is right-hand orleft-hand; left-hand threads are recogni-sable by the circular thread inscribedon their collar). When fitting a new blade, the threadedpin must be tightened (pinching theblade between the 2 elastic rings) witha torque of 7 daN (equivalent to a forceof 7kg applied at the end of a spanner1m long).

Regularly check the wear of the blades; if they are largely worn or irregular, or withbreakage causing even the slightest vibration, stop the machine and change theblade. In case of vibrations, stop the machine immediately consult your dealer.
