Dear Friends, For years now we have beenhearing of Guatemalan citizenscrossing the border to come intoour country steal, squat and take

land as if Belize belongs tothem. Yet, the Guatemalangovernment is not doinganything to prevent theseincidents from further occuring.

Some of theintruders were reportedly armedwith guns while others wereallegedly armed with machetes. The report indicated thatBarrera, his family and guestswere ordered into a room wherethey were reportedly tied upafter which the intruderssearched the house beforedeparting with Barrera’s$60,000 green Isuzu D-Maxtruck (license plates SI-C01863-SE), his licensed 9mm Berettabrand pistol fitted with amagazine containing 14 liverounds of ammunition. In International Diplomacythere is a term called "CrossBorder Baiting". This is when acountry is aware of incidentsoccuring on their borders andwould do nothing but allowthem to escalate to the pointwhere their citizens wouldget killed and use it as ajustification to declare waragainst the neighboring country. I am beginning to think thatthis is the direction where theGuatemalan government isheading. Based on their pasthistory with their unjustifiableclaim to our country, I havemany reasons not to trust them.

In negotiations, they are sayingone thing but once they leave theroom, they tend to do differentthings. Our government mustnow get tougher with Guatemalabecause these incidents will getworst and pretty soon they willkill a BDF soldier or a BDFsoldier will kill Guatemalancitzens at the border.

In the process of the investi-gation, at around 12 noon onWednesday, August 4, Barrera’svehicle was recovered intact offa feeder road in a pasture in theTrapiche area of Santa Elena town. No one was found in the area. The vehicle was removed anddriven to the San Ignacio policestation where it was heldovernight. In a strange turn of events, while the investigation is yet inthe preliminary stage, thevehicle, a major piece ofevidence in the investigation, was promptly handed over, the

following day, to the owner whohad publicly posted a three

thousand dollar reward for itsreturn.

Submitted by: Ronald Garri-son: We know Dick Lamm as thethree term former Governor ofColorado. In that contexthis thoughts are particularlypoignant. Last week there was animmigration overpopulationconference in Washington , DC,filled to capacity by many ofAmerica 's finest minds andleaders. A brilliant college professor bythe name of Victor HansenDavis talked about his latestbook, 'Mexifornia,' explaininghow immigration - both legaland illegal was destroying theentire state of California. Hesaid it would march across thecountry until it destroyed allvestiges of The AmericanDream. Moments later, the formerGovernor of Colorado RichardD. Lamm stood up and gavea stunning speech on how todestroy America The audience sat spellboundas he described eight methodsfor the destruction of the UnitedStates. He said, “If you believethat America is too smug, tooself-satisfied, too rich, then let'sdestroy America. It is not thathard to do. No nation in historyhas survived the ravages oftime. Arnold Toynbee observedthat all great civilizations riseand fall and that - An autopsyof history would show that allgreat nations commit suicide.'' “Here is how they do it,”Lamm said: 'FIRST, to destroy America, turn America into a bilingualor multi-lingual and biculturalcountry. History shows that nonation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of

two or more competinglanguages and cultures. It is ablessing for an individual to bebilingual; however, it is a cursefor a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar,Seymour Lipset, put it thisway: 'The histories of bilingualand bicultural societies that donot assimilate are histories ofturmoil, tension, and tragedy.'Canada , Belgium , Malaysia ,and Lebanon all face crises ofnational existence in whichminorities press for autonomy,if not independence. Pakistanand Cyprus have divided.Nigeria suppressed an ethnicrebellion. France facesdifficulties with Basques,Bretons, Corsicans andMuslims.'Lamm went on: 'SECOND, to destroy America, invent 'multiculturalism' andencourage immigrants tomaintain their culture. Makeit an article of belief that all

cultures are equal; that thereare no cultural differences.Make it an article of faiththat the Black and Hispanicdropout rates are due solely toprejudice and discriminationby the majority. Every otherexplanation is out of bounds. 'THIRD, we could make theUnited States an 'HispanicQuebec ' without mucheffort. The key is to celebratediversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said inthe Atlantic Monthly recently:'The apparent success ofour own multi-ethnic andmulticultural experiment mighthave been achieved not bytolerance but by hegemony.Without the dominance thatonce dictated ethnocentriyand what it meant to be anAmerican, we are left with onlytolerance and pluralism to holdus together.' Lamm said, 'I wouldencourage all immigrants tokeep their own language andculture. I would replace themelting pot metaphor withthe salad bowl metaphor. It isimportant to ensure that wehave various cultural sub-groups living in Ame ricaenforcing their differencesrather than as Americans, emphasizing their similari-ties.' 'FOURTH, I would make ourfastest growing demographicgroup the least educated.I would add a secondunderclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antago-nistic to our population. Iwould have this secondunderclass have a 50%dropout rate from highschool.' 'My FIFTH point fordestroying America would be

to get big foundations andbusiness to give these effortslots of money. I would investin ethnic identity, and Iwould establish the cult of'Victimology.' I would get allminorities to think that theirlack of success was the fault ofthe majority. I would start agrievance industry blamingall minority failure on themajority population.' 'My SIXTH plan forAmerica 's downfall wouldinclude dual citizenship, andpromote divided loyalties. Iwould celebrate diversityover unity. I would stressdifferences rather thansimilarities. Diverse peopleworldwide are mostly engagedin hating each other - that is,when they are not killing eachother. A diverse, peaceful, orstable society is against mosthistorical precedent. Peopleundervalue the unity it takesto keep a nation together.Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that theybelonged to the same race;they possessed a commonlanguage and literature; andthey worshipped the samegods. All Greece took partin the Olympic games. A

Richard D. Lammis Co-Director of the Institute for

Public Policy Studies at theUniversity of Denver, and the

former three-term Governor ofColorado. (1975-1987) He is botha lawyer (Berkeley, 1961) and a

Certified Public Accountant. He joined the faculty of the

University of Denver in 1969 andhas, except for his years as

Governor, been associated withthe University ever since.

He was offered and met bail inthe sum of $5,000 and orderedto return to court on Wednesday,November 2, 2011. The charge against the villageboy stems from an incidentwhich reportedly occurred ataround 9:30 on the morning ofSunday, July 31 in San AntonioVillage. While the child was accompa-nied to Belmopan on Tuesdaymorning, another team of police-men, descended upon San An-tonio Village in search of theaccused but after unsuccessfullysearching for several hours, theyreturned the San Ignacio emptyhanded. With the policepresence in the village, news ofthe incident quickly envelopedthe community and fearing forhis son’s safety at the hands ofangry villagers, the father turnedin the accused to the police. It was shortly before 5:00o’clock on Wednesday evening,

when the father strolled into thepolice station in San Ignacio andhanded over his son to thepolice. The child is recuperating athome in San Antonio Village.

Belize’s Minister of Sports,Hon. John Saldivar, can use hispower to let the new footballleague form a national team Since the President of theFootball Federation of Belize(FFB) Bertie Chimillio did notmake sure that his league met therequirements of the NationalSports Council it is clear that hethinks he is above the laws ofBelize. The Government of Belizewas elected by the citizens of thecountry and, as such, they havean obligation to carry out itsfunction in the best interest ofthe people and country of Belize. The FFB under the leadershipof Bertie Chimillio, has beenrunning football in Belize formany years now and they havenot improved the sport or havedeveloped any football team tomake Belize competitive in theinternational arena as the recordcan attest. Also, with the current scandalstaking place with the FIFAorganization, it is obvious thatsome of their officials who areincompetent were elected due topayoffs and bribes as opposedto their knowledge and profes-sional expertise with the sport. This scandal will lead to moreinformation that we werenot aware of because manycountries in the world willbegin to investigate the FIFArepresentatives in their home-lands. Allowing the FFB to continuerunning football in Belize andexpecting better results iswishful thinking because of theirlong history of failure. Jack Warner, FIFA Vice-President and Mohammed BinHammam, were recentlysuspended by the league’sdisciplinary committee forinappropriate conduct over analleged $40,000.00 US bribe toregional delegates to secure

votes on behalf of aspiring FIFAPresident Mohammed BinHammam. If found guilty by the commit-tee during the trial phase, theycould be banned for life forany further involvement withfootball anywhere in the world. The Government of Belizecannot wait for FIFA to disci-pline their officials before theyplan for the improvement offootball in the country. The Minster of Sports can nowauthorize the Belize NationalFootball Association (BNFA) toform a Selection Committee toselect the best players in thecountry to attend a footballtraining camp. Selecting a National FootballTeam over the years have alwaysbeen unfair from my own

personal experience when I wasplaying football in Belize. Most of the people who werechosen were not picked becauseof their abilities and capabilitiesin playing the sport. The major-ity of them were selectedbecause of favoritism. With aselection committee, they willhave the opportunity to selectthree of the best players for eachposition and send them to thetraining camp to compete amongthemselves for those positions. However, they must bear inmind that some of our country’srated players are out of thecountry playing and they mustmeet their contractual obliga-tions. These players should begiven the opportunity to partici-pate in this process as Belizeans. I am not too sure about the new

way in selecting the country’snational football team. I was toldthat over the years the countryused the team that won theNational Football tournamentwhich in this case will be theBelize Defense Force , as thechore team and then pickedother players from several teamsto make up the national selec-tion. I am opposed to thismethod and prefer when three ofthe best players countrywide foreach position are chosen to com-pete against each other for thepositions on the team. Belizehave six districts and each havea President and committeemembers who are familiar withthe players. Among themselves, they should be able to formulatethe rules and regulation as towho are the best players for eachposition in their districts. Then,

We had the opportunity onWednesday morning to sit in fora few minutes and to listen tothe dynamic presentation andinteraction between one of thefacilitators, Mr. Noel Carballofrom Corozal, as he informed, answered questions and inter-acted with the participants inattendance. It is obvious by the capacityand quality of presenters that theMinistry of Education is trulyserious about improving teachertraining thereby putting quali-fied and motivated teachers intoclassrooms thereby advancingthe improvement of the allimportant task of instructing ourfuture generation and leaders oftomorrow. It is also evident that agrowing number of teacher arelikewise taking serious thetask at hand.
