Dear Friends,
Vanakkam! I am honored to be the first President and privileged to serve ATMA.
The ATMA will be a unified force for all medical professionals of Tamil Origin living in USA and Canada to network, nurture friendship and help others. Among all Interna-tional Medical Graduates in USA, 20% are from India and 17% of those Indian Medical Graduates are from Tamil Nadu. This data from AMA does not include other physicians of Tamil origin from other countries like Sri Lanka. In addition, we have sizable num-bers of allied healthcare workers and a growing number of students graduating from North American medical schools. Imagine the resulting benefits if we all unite under one organization like ATMA.
You may ask, why another organization? The need is obvious when you think of some of the catastrophic events just happened last year - the mass fire destructions in Trichy and Kumbakonam and the worst one of all- the Tsunami. When we came to know of these minor or major disasters, we were all shocked, saddened and eager to help but felt helpless. We were looking to donate our money and/or time through certain organiza-tions but had our own reservations because none of them gained our fullest trust. ATMA has been created to fill this gap; it will establish clear goals to serve in Medical Relief and Health Related Activities. ATMA will be engaged in promoting preventive health for the underserved Tamils all the time and be prepared during emergencies and disasters.
For any organization to grow, sustain and serve it needs to have a clear vision, selfless-goal oriented leaders and supportive members. During this infantile stage of ATMA, I appeal to all of you to join me, other members of the Board, Advisory Committee, Ex-ecutive Committee and the Regional Directorates, as members to show your support and share your thoughts and ideas.
Let us plan and be prepared today to make the world better tomorrow. Join ATMA!
With Best Regards,
Jay J Gopal M.D.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Appeal from Souvenir committee
It is our sincere wish to create an original forum of communication that addresses Tamil Health Community of the World with our Journal of American Tamil Association (JATMA). For its first opening issue we invite articles from au-thors who are interested to contribute about health issues pertaining to Tamil Community of the world. We have cho-sen a unique theme for the journal- "Embracing Tamil Care with Health Care" with major focus areas, such as, Tamil Insight, Tamil Society Medicine, Tamil Medical Institutions and outstanding health professionals that we hope would help authors provide resourceful articles.
