Guy’s Background• Guy is a Japanese American • Born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1954• His mother was a housewife and his father was fireman, broker and state senator • His favorite subject in school was English. He credits AP English teacher, Harold Keables with teaching him how to write and edit, and inspiring him throughout his career

So What’s This Guy Done?• Guy received a BA in psychology from Stanford, an MBA from

UCLA, and an honorary doctorate from Babson College

• First job: Nova, a jewelry company, where he learned how to sell

• Joined Apple in 1983 spent four years selling the company’s concept and product to developers

• Guy left in 1987 and founded software companies, wrote, spoke, and consulted

• Returned to Apple in 1995, during a tough time for the company, to maintain and reinvigorate the Mac ‘cult’

• A few years later, left Apple again to found several more companies including: – Garage Technology Ventures, a venture capitalist group, and– Alltop, an online magazine rack

• Has written 10 books on how to be successful, including Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions

Guy says that he probably spends 4 to 5 hours a day tweeting• Guy uses twitter as a marketing tool opposed to a social network• Guy follows everyone that follows him, he retweets to gain maximum exposure, he tweets about everything and anything he thinks will interest people, he uses ghostwrtiers, and he tweets using several different twitter tools like twhirl and tweetdeck• You can follow Guy - @GuyKawasaki is followed by more than 840,000 people, @Alltop has more than 50,000 people, and @Guysreplies is followed by more than 3,000 people

What is Guy’s Social Media Presence Like?• Like twitter, Guy uses Facebook as a marketing tool, but he also posts personal things like pictures of his family, vacations, and fans• Guy has posts several times a day, everyday• Guy has more than 4,000 friends and 164,000 subscribers on Facebook• Guy is on Linkedin and his profile is pretty impressive http://www.linkedin.com/in/guykawasaki, but he blogs that is wasn’t always that way. Guys writes, “If you’re going to use LinkedIn, you should put some effort into your profile. My original one reflected a minimal amount of effort. For example, many of my current and past affiliations were missing, and I did not craft good descriptions of what I stand for. This incompleteness made my profile ineffective for networking.”

• Guy LOVES Google+, in fact he loves it so much, he wrote a book on it… he even compares it to Macintosh!

• According to Guy, it is the best and most underutilized social media platform

Where is Guy Now?• Guy is married and has four kids • He is the CEO of Alltop, a virtual “magazine rack” that helps you find the best blogs and websites on topics that interest you and share them with your friends• He is the Co-founder of Garage Venture Technologies, a capital venture company• He is an Advisor to more than ten companies including StumbleUpon, Slideshare, and Tweetmeme • He does speaking engagements all over the world on enchantment, innovation, entrepreneurship, evangelism, technology, and marketing

What is Enchantment?• Enchantment is Guy’s 10th book, published in March of 2011• Enchantment talks about how to successfully influence people’s thoughts and behaviors, while maintaining your ethics• Enchantment is based around 10 key points, including:

1. Be Likeable – Smile, “Dress for a tie”, or dress like your audience, and have a good handshake

2. Achieve Trustworthiness – This happens when you trust others, be a baker not an eater, and default to yes

3. Get Ready – Create something ‘DICEY’ Deep, Intelligent, Complete, Empowering, and Elegant, Make something short and sweet, and use salient points
