A small inn floating in the Seto Inland Sea. That is the concept of guntû.
Setouchi, as people call the Seto Inland Sea, that guntû traverses is in
Western Japan, a beautiful archipelago of islands woven together and is
the destination of a new Japanese luxurious journey. With 7,230km
shoreline and 23,203km2 area, it is the largest inland sea in Japan. With
700 islands floating in a calm sea, it is a beautiful and mysterious place.
From ancient times, it was a place for marine traffic coming and going,
ships from Tokyo and Osaka connecting Eastern and Western Japan and
foreign trading ships. History gives examples of events such as the exis-
tence of the greatest Japanese pirates and footprints of visits of Korean
delegations and foreign missionaries.
Guntû as an “inn” was conceived to pass time upon the sea while enjoying
the nature and culture of Setouchi.
Please let yourself blend into the gentle scenery of Setouchi and relax in
this space resembling a Japanese inn – ryokan.

Guntû has prepared 19 cabins with four suite styles. All 19
wood decorated cabins designed by architect Yasushi Horibe
known for his Japanese style homes are suites with a terrace
placed close to the surface of the sea. As the floating inn blends
into the Setouchi seascape, the experience is like being at a
friend’s refined guest house.
You can relax as one with the rustic view of Setouchi, and it be-
comes a refreshing space, wrapped in the comfort of the wood.

Taken from “guntu”, the nickname of the blue crab found in
Setouchi. Accordingly, the ship features the r ich delicacies of
Setouchi traditions and culture and will be loved forever by pas-
sengers as well as the locals. Such are the thoughts behind the
name. Also, the circumflex above the ‘u’ (û) is to link the ship’s
hull to the symbolic form of the gabled roof.
