From the Relieving Deputy
Principal….
Sport The boys touch football ventured to Narrabri
this week to play another round of the tournament.
The team were able to come away with a 10-3 win and
will now compete against Tamworth South in the next
round.
The game is set to be played at
Longmuir on September 11.
Good luck.
Staffing changes
Aylish Flannery has returned to our happy school after
18 months of travel throughout Europe, Canada and
also working in an orphanage in Ethiopia.
Before taking on her travelling adventures Ms Flannery
had taught in Gunnedah South Public School for 6 years
and upon her return was greeted with many familiar
faces, both staff and students throughout the school.
We look forward to seeing Ms Flannery helping out all
over the school in the following months.
S-Factor
Auditions for the 2017 S-Factor have been taking place
all week in the hall. There has been so many wonderful
performances, including an impromptu song from Mrs
Walsh, I am sure the judges will be in for a treat at
Friday night’s finale.
Well done to all competitors and good luck to the
finalists.
CAPERS This November our stage 3 Choir will be the
first students from GSPS to ever
participate in CAPERS. CAPERS is a
creative arts spectacular that involves
over 2500 students from over 40 public
schools. Our students will form part of
the massed choir. The theme this year is Far, Far Away.
All students in the Stage 3 Choir need to collect an
expression of interest from Mrs Passfield.
Dorothea Mackellar On Friday morning 1st
September Lucy Reid, Luke Lumsden and Toby Bartlett
accompanied Mr Smith to the Dorothea Mackellar
Poetry Awards. The event took place at the Civic Centre
and was attended by many local schools and
dignitaries.
Throughout the occasion the students represented the
school well and were proud to have the opportunity to
both represent the school at this event and also see the
performance that was given by the students in the
“Short Black Opera”.
Short Black Opera The students that were
selected to participate in the “Short Black Opera” have
had the opportunity to work all week with Deborah
Cheetham AO.
Deborah Cheetham is a Yorta Yorta woman, soprano,
composer and an educator that has been in the
Australian arts for over 25 years.
The students practiced up to six songs throughout the
week and have given two performances, one for
parents and the second at the Dorothea Mackellar
Poetry Awards. Having the opportunity to experience
the opera at the poetry awards I can express my pride
at how wonderful they all sounded and how well they
represented their school.
Speakfest
Students from years 1-6 who had
been selected to participate in
Speakfest attended Carroll on
Thursday to compete in public speaking. The students
participated enthusiastically and came away with some
very proud winners.

Our experience at TOM Tournament of Minds 2017
On Sunday the 27th of August, 7 students travelled to Armidale High School to compete in the annual Tourna-ment of Minds competition. When we arrived, it was absolutely freezing, so we went inside quickly. Once we were all inside, we went into the auditorium, set ourselves up, and quickly practised. After a short break, we were called into the spontaneous audition room. In this room, competitors are set a challenge of which they previously had no knowledge of. The challenge was very compli-cated and the team had to put their brains to work. Once we completed the spontaneous challenge we went to watch other teams do their long term chal-lenge. We did one last practise and then we were ready to go. We did a per-fect run of the script and had to wait for the awards presentation. Unfortu-nately we didn’t come first or second in social science but we can’t wait to go
again next year!

YEAR FOUR EXCURSION
Dear Parents and Carers,
All NSW Department of Education schools including Gunnedah South Public are
transitioning to a new finance structure, LMBR.
With this reform, it is required that all payments for the Year 4 excursion to Lake
Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre be finalised by the end of Term 3, to avoid any
unforeseen difficulties.
There are 5 weeks remaining in this term and instalments can still be made.
Please check to see if you have paid and/or how much you have owing. Thank you to
those who have already paid in full.
The cost of the excursion is $250.00.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Kind regards,
Vicki Merlehan
