1.1 REQUIREMENTS Each country will supply a series of images that will be printed on to the exterior panels of their pavilion. These panels are split into two different types, upper panels and lower panels.
Images for upper panels will either convey a sense of place or a sense of theme. Images for lower pannels will represent people.

2.1 UPPER PANELS Our high-impact upper panels provide each country with an opportunity to grab attention and entice visitors to explore, learn and participate. These panels serve to establish an immediate sense of place and provide insight to the topics and activity within the pavilion.
SENSE OF PLACE
– A single image per upper panel. – Showcase the physical landscape, conveying a sense of place. – Clean, abstract or flat blocks of colour work particularly well. – Strong colours and contrast work best against often intricate facade cladding.
SENSE OF THEME
– A single image per upper panel.– Themed around Opportunity, with a future focus.– An image that represents how the country is innovating / contributing to the theme of Opportunity. – Strong colours and contrast work best against often intricate facade cladding.
– Example image giving a sense of theme – Example image giving a sense of place
Each country can choose whether they put more emphasis on place or theme, for example:– 2x place, 1x theme– 1x place, 2x theme
– Example image giving a sense of place

2.2 LOWER PANELS Expo 2020 will bring over 180 countries and millions of people together. A catalyst of human progress, the event will showcase and explore what’s possible when new ideas and people connect.
Our lower panels celebrate our people, human potential and future generations. Head and shoulder photographs at eye level feel intimate and personal. These emotive shots can express the mood, diversity and personality of each country.
– Head and shoulder photographs.– These photographs can span multiple panels.– Multiple images per pavilion express diversity and inclusivity.– The inclusion of children represents future generations. – Images can also be provided as individual standalone panels.

4.1 FACADE WRAPS - STRUCTURES4.1 FACADE WRAPS - STRUCTURES Our Thematic Pavilions are wrapped in a range of architectural façades. Four styles have been designed for each thematic district. These allow each Pavilion to have it’s own identity and presence within the Expo 2020 site.

4.2 IMAGE REPRODUCTION
The varying architectural aesthetics of our facade wraps mean images will reproduce differently across the site. Please consider your assigned facade wrap and be mindful of how it’s contours, spaces and forme cuts could affect or distort imagery.
Please note, text will have varied levels of legibility so should be used with caution on the upper panels.

Due to the dynamic design of façades, certain images will not be legible at all angles.
If your allocated facade is indicated here, please pay special attention to these Do’s and Don’ts in order to maximise the impact of your image.
4.2 IMAGE REPRODUCTION
DO– Natural landscape images will work well.– Abstract images will work well. – Larger images with less intricate detail will reproduce better.
DON’T – Avoid images of people or animals. – Avoid images that contain a lot of detail.– Avoid pale images. – Country names printed directly onto the facade are strongly discouraged and may not be legible. – Avoid any image that could risk confusion when distorted.

UPPER PANELS
– A single image per facade.– Consider your assigned facade wrap: how it’s contours, spaces and forme cuts could
affect or distort imagery. – Clean, abstract or flat blocks of colour work particularly well. – Text will have varied levels of legibility so should be avoided on the upper panels.– Ideally, your images should compliment the Thematic District colour.
LOWER PANELS
– Head and shoulder photographs.– Landscape photographs will span multiple panels, so be mindful of image splits.
4.4 IMAGES - BEST PRACTICE
IMAGE SUBMISSION We recommend each country submit image options for each panel type. This allows our design and production specialists to select the most appropriate images, taking into consideration colour, composition, consistency and end result dependant on the architectural cladding.
Opportunity Pavilions GuidelinesEXPO 2020 DUBAI 21
– Staged– False emotion– Visually busy– Poor composition– Generic_ Pale in tone
– Emotive – Powerful– Natural – Clear point of focus– Real people
GOOD PHOTOGRAPHY BAD PHOTOGRAPHY
DO– Use an image that provides one single clear point
of focus.– Use eye-level viewpoint photography as it feels
more intimate and personal. Faces are particularly emotive, expressing mood, diversity, equality and authentic personality.
– Think of the intended audience of the application and choose the appropriate image. Be respectful of other cultures that will also be exhibiting at Expo2020.
DON’T– Use imagery that feels staged or fake. Try to take
natural shots that doesn’t use models.– Busy hero images has less impact.– Include images that depict nudity or alcohol.– Individual images of varied subjects compete for
attention and appear visually cluttered. Try to focus on a single narrative.
