K: Living things have common characteristics which can be observed and described

K: The earth is made of water and landforms that change1: Living things have basic needs (food, water, air and

shelter) and physical characteristics to meet those needs1: Plants and animals secure their needs in different ways,

but often depend on one another1: The sun heats the Earth2: Living things have life cycles that are characteristic of their

species2: Groups of living things are related because they share

essential features that are different from other living things4: Behaviors of animals are adapted to meet their needs4: Animals have different adaptations for survival in different

habitats4: Structures of animals are adapted to meet their needs

Penguin Expert Groups

Adelie penguins travel the farthest of any penguin. They can travel up to 500 miles to find food or lay eggs.

The Emperor penguin is the largest penguin. They huddle together and move in a circle to keep warm.

The Macaroni penguin gets its name from its unusual head feathers that look like a hairstyle from Italy.

The Chinstrap penguin gets its name from the black feathers on its head and under its chin, which look like a helmet.
