PC Prep for PrintingDrivers must be installed on your laptop in order to print to any of the AOC printers. Drivers for the printers listed above are included in the General Access Printer installer, which is available online.

Newer versions of Mac OS require you to authorize installation of 3rd party applications. This must be done to install the print drivers.

1. Navigate to System Settings and Security & Privacy

2. Click the lock to make changes and enter your password

3. Change the option from ‘Mac App Store and identified developers’ to ‘Anywhere’.

4. Click allow in the pop up window.

• Open your browser and navigate to: http://crit.artic.edu/printing/• Click on the link to General Access Printer Installer at the top of the page. • The file should begin downloading. Depending on your browser, you may be prompted for different options. • Once the file is completed downloaded, complete the installer • After the installer is complete you should now have access to all the printers.

Document Preparation and Printing Programs differ slightly in terms of print preparation and color processing. The following instructions are general guide-lines, and particular programs may vary. If you have questions about a specific program, please check the manual or help file for printing specifics.

The Océ color printer attempts to match on-screen colors by making automatic adjustments. It is recommended that in-program color management be assigned to the post-script printer.

Print ResolutionTIFF, JPEG, PSD, raster resolution for PC or Mac is HIGHLY recommended to be less than 150PPI (pixels per inch). Higher resolutions than this will not increase the quality of the print and only make the print take longer to queue up.

PDF Optimization Use Acrobat’s Preflight batch processor to automatically check for PDF errors and downsample images to appropriate resolutions to drastically reduce printing times. Preflight works the same in Windows or Mac OS. Learn more about Preflight in a video tutorial at:

http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/?id=vid0110

Download the Advanced Output Center’s Preflight package and installation instructions at:

Printing from Mac OSX

•Page Setup is usually located under the ‘File’ menu, or as an option in the ‘Print’ dialog.

•Set the ‘Format for:’ option to the name of the printer you want. For example, select Su1232_CW600_BOND_PrintQ for a large-format color print on bond.

•Once the printer has been selected, set the ‘Paper Size’ option. (For custom sizes, see the Custom Size section below).

•Set the orientation to landscape or portrait mode. Hit OK.

•Select a paper size from the dropdown list.

•(OPTIONAL) Select printer options o Large-format color printer ‘Quality’ option can be set to either ‘Check,’ ‘Release,’ or ‘Presentation. ‘Presentation’ is the default for Bond paper; this looks the best on Bond, however Release is the default for vellum, since printing in Presentation mode on Vellum can often lead to ink smearing. o For the large-format black and white printer, the ‘Printer Fea-tures’ offers ‘Quality’ options of ‘Standard,’ ‘Line Text,’ and ‘Poster Mode.’ ‘Poster Mode’ is better for images, while ‘Line Text’ is better for lines and text. ‘Standard’ is somewhere in between.

 Custom Sizes

•To access the custom size settings, select ‘PostScript Custom Page Size’ from the Paper Size dropdown (shown above).

•Set the Units to ‘Inches.’

•Set width and height. **NOTE** Width MUST be set to the width of the paper (36” on B/W and 42” on the color). If this is not set correctly your print will come out wrong!

If your height is greater than your width, set “Paper Feed Direction” to ‘short edge first’, otherwise select ‘long edge first’.

********* When printing multiple prints or very large prints, ***************** You MUST be present during printing to remove the prints from the printer tray. ********

********* Failure to do so will result in massive paper jams and your job will not be reprinted! ********

Paying for Print JobsOnce your document has been sent to the a print queue, you must come to the AOC to pay with your ArtiCard on the Uni-Print station, or on the stations attached to the copier-printers. ArtiCard is the only form of payment accepted for print jobs. The AOC printers are self-serve, and users are responsible for making sure they are selecting the appropriate settings for their document. The AOC WILL NOT refund payment for unsatisfactory prints. If you have questions about whether or not your settings are correct, please ask BEFORE sending your job through.

ArtiCard Payment

• If you need a receipt for your print job, please ask a lab monitor BEFORE paying at the UniPrint station. • The AOC has one UniPrint station designated for payment of print jobs sent to the large format color and large format black and white printers. To pay for a job, swipe your card on the card-reader. Select your print job, and click the ‘Print’ button. Prints can sometimes take a long to process, so be patient. If you have questions about your print job, please ask the AOC staff.

Scanning from the Oce CS4236 large-format scanner

The Oce CS4236 scanner can scan most flat paper documents, including charcoal, pastel and pencil drawings. Charcoal drawings must be sprayed with fixative before scanning!Nothing abrasive or wet should ever be put through the scanner. For questions about specific materials, please contact an AOC staff member.

There is no charge to use the scanner.

• To get started first make sure the scanner is awake by pushing the power button. The button will be green when the scanner is awake.

• Now that the scanner is awake, on the PC, open up ‘Océ Copy Easy’ on the desktop.

• When the software first loads up, it’ll ask you to confirm your scanner. Make sure that it says Océ CS4236. For available printer, just set it to ‘Demo Printer’ as our scanner is not set up for direct copy.

• With the software loaded up, the next thing you’ll have to do is switch over to ‘Scan to File’ mode. This can be accessed by pressing the disk on the bottom left side.

• Now that you are in the ‘Scan to File’ mode, set your settings, paying attention to scan location, file format, and resolution.

• It is best not to scan directly to a USB storage device.• Once your settings are put in, feed the document in facing UP. The

scanner will automatically catch the document if fed correctly.• Click the button for ‘Scan’ on the desktop. The scanner will then

proceed to measure the document, do a short preview scan, then scan the whole document to your target location.

• When the scanning is complete the document will drop out the back.

• If you notice any streaks or problems please report them to the lab monitor. Do not attempt to clean the scanner yourself.
