Newsletter 8 June, 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope you’ve enjoyed the chill of the first week of winter! While it’s been

harder to get up each morning, it’s important we soldier on and encourage

our students to turn up to school organised and ready to finish of the term

on a positive.

Behaviour Management As discussed previously, this year, Guardian Angels is placing a major focus on the revision of our behaviour management processes. Our approach to behaviour management is aligned with the philosophy of ‘Positive Behaviour for Learning’ or PB4L. we believe that behaviour is learned and therefore needs to be taught, retaught and reinforced consistently. Our three major expectations for students are:

1. Show RESPECT

2. Be RESPONSIBLE

3. Act SAFELY

These three new expectations will replace the 4 Non-Negotiables:

• What the teacher says I do

• Indicate to speak and move • Speak to please, not to tease

• Hands of others and their things

Planning is currently underway to develop a scope and sequence for each

year level for each of the three expectations. The PB4L team have also

developed a Behaviour Response flowchart to give clear direction for staff

when managing unproductive behaviour.

I thought I would share with you the SHOW RESPECT expectations

contained within our draft Behaviour Matrix. As a staff, we will start using

this language with our students. Next week, I will publish the BE

RESPOSNISBLE expectations.

Peace be with you. Craig

Confirmation Many of our children will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation next Wednesday evening. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the members of the Parish Sacramental Team who have worked with these young people and their families to prepare them for this Sacrament. Monsignor Peter Meneely will celebrate Confirmation in the two ceremonies, one at 5pm and one at 7:30pm. May each of these young people be blessed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit throughout their lives. Semester One Reports As discussed previously, your child’s Semester One report will be digitally uploaded to the Parent Portal on Monday 19 June. Please ensure your current email address has been given to our office staff to enable you to access these reports. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank our wonderful teachers for the enormous amount of time and careful thought that they have dedicated to writing reports to keep parents well informed as to their child’s progress. Have a great week everyone. Dawn Morrissey

Virtue This fortnight each class will be looking at the virtue of Caring. Caring is giving love and attention to people and things that matter to you. When you care about people, you help them. When you do a careful job, you give it your very best effort. You treat people and things gently and respectfully. We are practising caring when we: • Let people know that what they say is important

by looking at them and listening closely. • Give people help when they need it. • Handle things carefully. • Are gentle and loving with anything or anyone

placed in our care. • Treat our body with respect • Work with enthusiasm and excellence.

Trinity Sunday Christians and Churches in Australia celebrate Trinity Sunday, which is the first Sunday after Pentecost. It is one of the few feasts that are celebrated as a doctrine instead of an event. It

is also symbolic of the unity of the Trinity. It is an opportunity for the congregation to learn about or revisit the concept of the Trinity, which refers to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit being one God. The Nicene Creed is often included in some church services, particularly within Catholic churches, on Trinity Sunday. Many people see this creed as one that professes the Christian faith. The liturgical colour is white on Trinity Sunday. Images of the Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit depict that there are three elements of one God. The Trinity is sometimes symbolized by a triangular shape formed by three overlapping oval rings or loops, each featuring one of the following images: the crown (father) within the top loop; the lamb (son) within the second loop (clockwise); and the dove (spirit) within the third loop (clockwise).

Rosies and BABI Appeals This year’s appeal will run over the last two weeks of Semester One from Monday 12 June - Friday 23 June in schools, and the weekends of 17/18 June & 24/25 June in Parishes. If you are able to support the charitable outreach of Rosies and BABI to the

disadvantaged in our community, please choose an item from the list below and place it in the baskets in the offices on each campus. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Rosies: Cup a soup (no cans please), Cup of noodles (no packets please), Coffee, Cordial, Sugar, Milo, Biscuits, Muesli bars, Roll on deodorant (no glass please), Safety razors and shaving cream, Serviettes (packs of 100 please), Plastic spoons

BABI: Non-perishables such as: Tinned Meals and Vegies, Recipe Bases, Tinned fruit, Rice and Pasta Sauce, Cup-A- Soup/Noodles, Biscuits, Cereal Bars, Cereal, Crackers/Snacks, Long-life Milk, Coffee, Tea, Milo, Sugar, Salt/Pepper, Sauces, Cleaning products.

Prayer Let us Pray Father, you sent your Word to bring us truth and your Spirit to make us holy. Through them we come to know the mystery of your life. Help us to worship you, one God in three Persons, by proclaiming and living our faith in you. We ask you this, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, true and living, for ever and ever. Amen Blessings for the coming week, Debbie
