Dear Parents and Guardians
This Sunday, we honour the inspiring role men play in their children’s lives. Unsurprisingly, children are constantly observing the significant men in their lives and learn lifelong strategies to help navigate this wonderful life with which we’ve been gifted. Life can be ‘rocky’ at times and our children are looking to us to see how we cope and manage everyday situations. As men, we should never underestimate the import role we play in our children’s lives. For fathers who cannot always be physically present to their children, be comforted in the belief that your children will continue to need your positive influence in the long term. As men, we need to look after our mental health and physical wellbeing in order to be active and present as older fathers and grandfathers in the future. I truly hope Sunday is an enjoyable time where our fathers are spoilt and made to feel special! Happy Fathers’ Day men!
Uniform Shop I am pleased to announce our new on-site Uniform Shop will be operational early next term. UMS are fitting out the shop over the holidays, and if all goes to plan, it may even be open in Week 1, Term 4. We will keep you posted!
Fete News I am pleased to share our recent school Fete raised $34 043. This amount is shared equally with the Parish. Thank you once again to Jay Vella, Sue Biden and our many volunteers who helped make the day a success. I look forward to consulting with our P&F as to how the money raised will be expended.
Staffing News It is with mixed feelings I share the news Tom Kirby will be leaving GA at the end of 2018. Tom was successful in applying for a transfer to St. Oliver Plunkett, Canon Hill. We wish Tom all the best in his new adventure and I am sure you join me in congratulating Tom on his new teaching adventure from 2018.
Next week we welcome Julie Waters to GA in the role of school secretary and PA to the Principal. Julie is replacing Sharyn Harrington was has been seconded into BCE’s Learning and Teaching Services for the remainder of 2017. We will miss Sharyn greatly and we wish her all the best for her new role. I am excited to have Julie join us. We are fortunate as Julie is a very experienced secretary who comes to us from St John Vianney’s, Manly.
Tomorrow I look forward to joining our Year 4 students, teachers and parent volunteers on their excursion to Kindilan. It promises to be an engaging day for our students as they strive to solve problems and work collaboratively in a physically challenging outdoor setting!
Peace be with you Craig

Reconciliation Congratulations to all those children who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation last night. This is a milestone in these children’s faith journey, and we thank parents for their commitment to supporting their children during their preparation. Year Level Planning Over the next couple of weeks all our teachers will be released from class for a day to plan Term Four teaching and learning activities with other teachers on their year level. During this time teachers will also be updating our data wall to reflect where each student is currently sitting in aspects of Literacy and to celebrate the progress each student has made. This reflects both our school goal and our Brisbane Catholic Education system goal of growing engagement, progress and achievement for each student in Literacy. Fathers’ Day Stall Students in Years 3, 5 and 6 will have the opportunity of purchasing a gift at the P&F sponsored Fathers’ Day stall tomorrow. Our Prep to Year 2 students, as well as our Year 4 students who will be on an excursion tomorrow, had an opportunity today to purchase gifts. If you forgot to send along money with your child today, there may be some gifts available for purchase tomorrow. I have been advised that there are no grandfather presents and limited father presents available. All gifts are $6.00. Have a great week everyone. I hope all our Dads have a wonderful Fathers’ Day this Sunday. The P&F would also like to say a huge thank you for your wonderful support. Dawn Morrissey

Virtue The virtue of the week is prayerfulness. Prayerfulness can be practised in many ways.
Prayer is talking to God in silence or out loud. Prayerfulness is living in a way which shows that you are in the presence of God. It is listening and receiving God’s guidance. We are practising prayerfulness, when we: Take time every day to pray and reflect Talk to God as we would to a really good friend Share our thoughts, hopes, needs and fears in
prayer Trust, listen and watch for God’s answer Take action with trust and Have an attitude of gratitude Father’s Day
On Sunday we celebrate Father’s Day, a celebration honouring fathers, celebrating fatherhood and the influence of fathers in society. On Father’s Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers
make for their children and families, and the ways – both big and small – they lift children to achieve dreams thought beyond their reach. I hope all of our Guardian Angels’ Dads have an enjoyable day on Sunday. A Prayer for Father’s
God our loving Father,
At this special time of the year we pause to give thanks for our dads, uncles, grandfathers and other special males in our lives. May your Holy Spirit constantly inspire them with justice and mercy, wisdom and strength, patience and self-giving love.
Blessings for the coming week, Kind regards Debbie Young

BOOK WEEK 2017 4 – 8 September Escape to Everywhere
Book Week this year will be celebrated from Monday 4 to Friday 8 September. The theme this year is Escape to Everywhere highlighting that through books one can escape to anywhere that the author’s and reader’s minds can imagine. Some of the highlights of the week will be the Book Character Parade on Wednesday morning from 8:35am where students can dress as any book character they like. The Author and Illustrator talks on Tuesday and Thursday will be entertaining and informative. For the younger students, the Super Duper shows on Monday are sure to be great favourites. The Book Week Art Activities will be centred around the shortlisted Children’s Book Council of Australia books and Zart Art book. The Book Warehouse Book Fair will provide the opportunity for students to purchase reasonably priced books. The Book Fair will be open for purchases on Monday 4, Tuesday 5, Thursday 7 and Friday 8 September from 8:00am-8:35am and from 3:00pm-3:30pm. Children will also be able to purchase books throughout Book Week during their normal Library times. Books will be on display the week before Book Week (i.e. 28 August to 1 September) to allow students to see what is available and establish their wish lists. Parents are requested to send money in an envelope clearly marked with the student’s name and requested book title. Preps may need guidance as to what is a suitable book for their reading level.
