and approach? A 21st Century adapted model of storytelling.

Storytelling - the art of which allows people to explore their imaginations and express themselves in a creative manner- has been vital to history since the dawn of civilization. While imagination flourishes in el-ementary aged children, it can sometimes fall victim to the mat-uration of adolescent perspec-tives and attitudes. OpenSimula-tor class not only preserves and encourages the use of student imagination, it sanctions it.

As STA students develop constructive personal values, OpenSimulator class presents situations in which the outcome of both wise and unwise actions and choices can be immediately seen and understood. The value of this, of course, has long-term benefits.

real sense of immediate gratifi-cation to this type of program-ming,” says John. “I can mimic real life scenes (like traffic at an intersection) by applying my knowledge of math and physics and I can see the results imme-diately.”

By engaging its students in this cutting-edge computer programming, St. Thomas Aquinas High School empowers and encourages young men and women to ignite their creativity, curiosity and passion. Students are introduced to various forms of artistic expression within the fields of entertainment design, animation, visual effects or even games.

By guiding his students within a small class atmosphere, Jim Christie sparks inspiration, shares his expertise and provides the students with a clear perspec-tive on how to become a profes-sional visual effects artist. What is the sum of this unique design

Your Best Homeowner Tax Return: Deducting Mortgage PointsIf you itemize your

deductions and can take the mortgage inter-

est deduction on your federal income tax, you may be able to deduct the points you paid on your home mortgage, too.

Points are prepaid inter-est, so they get reported as home mortgage interest on Form 1040, Schedule A . The total deductible points you paid during the year (along with the interest you paid) show up on the Form 1098 your lender sends to you. You can typically deduct points in full in the year they’re paid, if you meet all these require-ments:• The mortgage was for your primary home.• Paying points is an estab-lished business practice in your area.• The points you paid were typical for your area.• You use the cash method of accounting (you report income in the year you receive it and deduct expenses in the

year you pay them).• The points you paid didn’t cover services or products that show up on your loan settle-ment sheet such as appraisal fees, inspection fees, title fees, attorney fees or property taxes.• The points you paid at or before closing, plus the points the seller paid, were at least as much as the points charged. You didn’t borrow money from your lender or mortgage broker to pay the points.• You used your loan to buy or build your primary home.• The points were computed as a percentage of the principal amount of your mortgage.• The amount is clearly shown as points on your settlement statement.

If you don’t meet the IRS’ requirements (and this typically happens in a refinance), you may still be able to deduct your points over the life of your new mortgage rather than in a single year. You can deduct the rest of the points over the life of the loan if you meet these require-

ments:• You use the cash method of accounting (you report income in the year you receive it and deduct expenses in the year you pay them).• Your loan is secured by a home. The home does not need to be your main home.• Your loan is for not more than 30 years.• If your loan period is more than 10 years, the terms of your loan are the same as other loans offered in your area for the same or longer period.• Either your loan amount is $250,000 or less, or the number of points is not more than: • 4 points, if your loan period is 15 years or less.• 6 points, if your loan period is more than 15 years.

Other Pointers On PointsWhen a seller pays points for you as a buyer, you have to sub-tract the amount of those points when you calculate your basis or cost of the residence. You’ll likely do that capital gains calculation when you sell the

home many years from now, so be sure to file your settlement sheet where you can find it in the future.

Points you pay on second home loans can generally be de-ducted only over the life of the loans.

You may be subject to a limit on some of your itemized deductions, including points. For more information on the ad-justed gross income limitations, please refer to the Form 1040 Instructions.

If the mortgage you got to acquire your home was for more than $1 million, or your home equity debt exceeds $100,000, you probably can’t deduct all your mortgage interest or all your points. Read Publication 936, Home Mortgage Interest Deduction, to figure out how to deduct your points.

Tax laws and tax rules are constantly being updated and interpreted. This article con-tains general information, so please discuss your individual situation with a trusted tax ad-

viser before making tax decisions.

DOVER –The Strafford County

Board of Realtors held a fund-raiser recently in which they raffled off opportunities to win dinner for a year. The proceeds of this February fund raiser, more than $6500, was designat-ed to End 68 Hours of Hunger, and Connie Margowsky came out on a frosty winter's day to de-liver the check to Claire Bloom, Volunteer Executive Director of the program to end childhood hunger in America, one school at a time!

These funds were donated to support the Strafford County program most in need, and at present that program is the Dover program, which currently feeds more than 140 children each weekend.

According to Bloom, "End 68 Hours of Hunger relies on the donations from companies and individuals, of both food and funds, to feed local children on

the weekends, between the free lunch they receive in school on Friday and the free breakfast they receive in school on Monday. To date the program has expanded to six states, and more than 40 towns, and is feeding 1300 chil-

dren each weekend."Contact Bloom at 954-304-

1321 or visit www.end68hour-sofhunger.org to find out more about the program, including how to start an End 68 Hours of Hunger program in your town!

Claire Bloom explains in a video how to start a program in your own town.
