    The fundamental change here is the removal of the SCP and the introduction of Real Time Charging (RTC) protocol between MSC and CCN.

    The main reasoning behind this is the reduction of loading on the MSC as the function is now a fundamental part of the MSC operation and not an ancillary. CAMEL and SSF are no longer needed, although CAMEL will still be supported in parallel for roaming purposes.

    The CCN can also now support CAP v1 and CAP v2. This is to allow support of voice (CS) control and charging. The diagram shows how PSL running on INS is implemented, this function will eventually disappear with the PSL functionality being taken over by the CCN.The removal of the SCP and the use of CCN as a relay is an integral part of the move towards converged charging.

    Also we have the introduction of CIP/IP, The legacy charging interrogation protocol is based on SS7. The main reason for introducing CIP based on IP-technology is that function Service Charging based on Diameter (SCAPv2) is based on IP-technology and supports a large number of parameters. Therefore it would be beneficial to introduce an internal charging interrogation protocol using a similar technology.
