The originsIt was originally developed in 2010-2012 in house in the Telecom Italia Labs. reusing experimental platforms principles (energy control related) that had been introduced in ETSI M2M specification.

It has been implemented according to a core set ETSI M2M Release 2 specification (2011-2012)( ETSI M2M was the precursor - oneM2M is the globalization of the ETSI M2M solution)

Additional rules were included for user creation and pre-configuration, for platform administration, and for semantic interoperability (a sort of proprietary common ontology).

The migrationStarting from early 2016 we analyzed different option for the migration to oneM2M, and we selected the Ocean Mobius opensource solution.

The full migration happen in middle 2017 and was very quick and smooth due to the similarity of the basic key element (AE, Containers, ACP) and of the REST interfaces, that allowed also an almost direct migration of application s and the additional configuration rules.

Another enhancement was the inclusion of a MongoDB solution in parallel to the relational DB.

Application C

ICON includes the interfacing with the cellularnetworks, in particular for Nb-IoT, and shortly also 5G.For such purpose, a specific set of predefinedresources has been defined

As for the Lab version, it includes the interfaces withother technologies on the field, as well other IoTplatforms

It is compliant with the oneM2M Rel 2 specifications, and it exists as in-house version (Ocean Mobiusopensource based) and a third party version, on thebasis of a commercial oneM2M solutions.

The TIM platform Evolution : SAREF to assure smooth Semantic interoperability

TIM is concentrated on the interoperability at the semantic level.

Among the interoperability possibilities in oneM2M, we DISCOURAGE the specific flexcontainers option:1. When a subsystem (e.g. a controller) needs share information with other subsystems ( e.g. traffic

sensors, traffic lights, environment sensors, etc. this option requires each peer to understand the data structure and the semantic used by the other peer.

2. Sensors have very long life and are along the years are deployed with multiple different technologies , so this option forces a contiguous modification of the platform to support the different specific flexcontainers, and of the applications to interpret such new resources.

For this reason we are developing using ONLY the oneM2M «generic interworking» approach with a common ontology. In particular we are looking at SAREF ontology as the standard way to provide a common solution.

In 2013-2014 the European Commission launched a standardization initiative (SMART 2013/0077) in collaboration with ETSI (TC SmartM2M) with the objective to • Create a commonly agreed semantics (interoperable concepts) starting smart appliances domain • Build a reference ontology (SAREF) as “interoperability language”

IOT:

It is not which protocol… or which platform… that makes the IoT!

The key is to share the information and its meaning among different systems and applications , and among different business sectors !
