Getting the Teacher’s Attention

1. Look at the teacher.

2. Raise your hand and stay calm.

3. Wait until the teacher says your name.

4. Ask your question.

Activity: Ask your students to

1) List things that you need to get the teacher’s attention right away.

2) Name staff persons at your school site that you feel comfortable talking to should you need to talk to someone

during lunch and recess.

IEP Tip of the Week: What is Self-Regulation and how to address it in an IEP

Self-regulation

Self-regulation Self-control or self-

management, anger control, and impulse

control.

People’s ability to adjust their level of alertness and how they display their emotions through their behavior to attain goals in socially adaptive ways (Bronson, 2001).

Is whatever needs to be done to be in the optimal state for the given situation. This includes regulating one’s sensory needs, emotions, and impulses to meet the demands of the environment, reach one goals, and

behave in a socially appropriate way.
