Celebrity Showmanship Raises $7715.30

During the 2019 Fayette County Fair following the sheep, swine, beef and dairy 4-H/FFA shows “celebrity showman-ship” was held raising a grand total of $7715.30 which has been designated for the Clover Café renovation project. If you, your business, or 4-H club is interested in supporting this project, please make checks payable to the “Friends of the Fayette County Fair,” and mail to Fayette County Exten-sion, P.O. 700, Fayette, IA 52142. At the current time the committee and general contractor are working to seek the project total but materials alone total $20,000. That does not include any cement, insulation, plumbing or electrical. All donations are tax deductible and donors will be recog-nized. A display board will be made when the project is com-pleted. Contact Michele with any questions.

Fayette County Fair 2019 is now history and from my per-spective it was an amazing week! Congratulations to each one of you. I could see a lot of pride shown throughout the week by the hard work, love and true team work shown by everyone working together to make the best better. Also a big thank you to those additional club members and volunteers who stepped up to fill the gaps that were needed by filling in at the Clover Café and patrolling the 4-H building during fair week. Now that the fair season is behind us, I would like to remind you about the importance of completing a record book. Record books are due to club leaders by September 15. Club leaders are asked to review the books prior to bringing them to the office by the October 1 deadline. All books turned in by the October 1 deadline will then be judged by community, Youth Council and Youth Development Commit-tee members with awards distributed in mid-November. If you, the 4-H members, would like assistance with com-pleting your record book, please ask. Record keeping is a very important skill that we all need throughout our life time. Clover Café Renovation

What will the new Clover Café look like? Some of you have inquired while others may be wondering so let me give you a brief update.

1. An indoor storage room would be included eliminat-ing the use of the additional trailer located on the north side of the building

2. The serving counter will be enclosed

3. Customers will be able to see food being prepared

4. There will be a counter at the correct level and pa-trons won’t have to bend down to talk with person inside the existing Clover

5. Outdoor seating area will be expanded

6. There will be a worker entrance located on the north side

7. The current Clover Café will increase from the ex-isting14’x24’ to 25’x40’ in size allowing for more space for prepping food

Re-enrolling is Important

It’s that time of year when families must re-enroll to remain 4-H members. After September 15, returning members, both 4-H and Clover Kids must visit https://iowa.4honline.com and complete the enrollment pro-cess as has been done in the past.

All youth and leaders must re-enroll for the new 4-H year using 4-H Online. New members must fill out a paper copy. Those 4

th grade and older must be re-enrolled by De-

cember 1, 2019 to receive the yearly $20 county in-centive. Those completing the process starting De-cember 2 and after will be responsible for the full $30 payment.

Record Books due September 15

4-H’ers are encouraged to complete a record book and turn it into their club leader by September 15. All forms are available by picking up at the Exten-sion Office or can be found online at:

The exhibit explanation forms that were filled out for fair can be put in your record book. Simply fill out the back of the forms or junior members (grades 4-6) may continue to use the “basic” project record book sheet; intermediate (grade 7-8) the “experienced” and senior members (grades 9-12) the “advanced.”

When completing the forms remember that the 2018-19 year runs from October 1, 2018-September 30, 2019 so be sure to use the grade completed NOT the grade you are currently in.

Leaders must have books turned into the office on or before Monday, October 1 in order for books to be processed for county judging.

Record Book Flash Drives Available

Flash drives with all the record book forms on them are available at the Extension Office for a fee of $5 each. If you would like one for your child or family please call in advance to order.

4-H’ers for 4-H Campaign

Thank you to the members of the Eden Outer Limits, Eldorado Eagles, Fremont Friends, Pleasant Valley Sharpshooters and Windsor Sparkplugs 4-H clubs for donating at least $3 per member to the 4-H’ers for 4-H campaign sponsored this past summer by members of the State 4-H Council.

Contributions raised through this campaign support the State 4-H Youth Conference and financial aid for 4-H pro-grams fees and state sponsored event registrations.

National 4-H Week

National 4-H Week will be observed October 6-12, 2019. Please talk to your club members on ways current mem-bers can promote 4-H throughout the week as individuals or as a group. Some ideas that have been done in the past include:

Painting or setting up a 4-H display in a store front window

Writing a news release to be printed in the newspaper encouraging youth to join 4-H

Making and hanging posters throughout school hall-ways, in the local convenience and grocery store pro-moting 4-H. Be sure to include club contact infor-mation.

Wear 4-H apparel all week, selections could include a county fair shirt, a 4-H club shirt or just a plain green shirt.

Talk to a friend, and/or their family, neighbors or any-one that might be interested in joining 4-H.

Please submit photos to Michele, identifying those in the picture along with a small description sharing what your club members did to promote 4-H!

4-H Leader Meeting

A kick off to the new 4-H year leaders meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 1 at 7:00 pm at the Exten-sion Office. More information will be sent directly to 4-H leaders in mid-September but please mark your calendar today. Save a trip — Record Books may be turned in at

the meeting.

Important Forms for 4-H Leaders

Important forms will be arriving in the mail for club leaders in the near future. Please work with club officers and mem-bers in getting these forms filled out and returned to the Extension Office as soon as possible or by the date listed in the letter that accompanies the forms.

Forms consist of:

• 4-H Compliance Report—due October 1, 2019

• Request for Approval to Establish an Iowa 4-H

Youth Learning Community—due October 1, 2019 (only needed if club leadership will be changing)

• Club Financial Report—due October 1, 2019

• Club Program Book (calendar)—due Oct. 1, 2019

• 4-H Secretary’s Record Score Sheet

• 4-H Historian Book Score Sheet

These forms must be turned in by the deadline as a requirement from the State 4-H Office in club charter-ing that was discussed in the past at a leaders meet-ing.

2019 Hall of Fame Recipient — Bill Dohrmann

Bill Dohrmann, formerly of Fayette and cur-rently of Iowa City, is this year’s Hall of Fame recipient from Fayette County.

Bill’s 4-H career started as a youth in Franklin County as a member of the Hamilton Go-Getters. Bill shared that his fondest 4-H memories were receiving his first ever ribbon showing his baby beef and lambs along with being a member of the 1959 National Live-

stock judging team with competition held in Chicago.

Bill, and his late wife Susan settled in Fayette County where he continues to be a proud supporter of Fayette County 4-H by participating in and supporting the annual golf tournament and attending the Fayette County Fair. In the early 2000’s he served as an at-large delegate to the Iowa 4-H Foundation and still shares to those seeking advice on selection of their livestock projects.

Clover Kids graduation ceremony held on Saturday of the

county fair.

Dear Clover Kids,

Congratulations on the great job each of you did ex-

hibiting at the 2019 Fayette County Fair. It is a pleas-

ure watching you participate in Static judging or show-

ing your pets, dogs, meat goats, lambs and bucket bot-

tle animals.

As we move into the new 4-H year, I would like to re-

mind you we do have a Clover Kids record book availa-

ble from the Extension Office. The Clover Kids rec-

ord book is set up to be done on a monthly basis and

it’s not too late to get started. The youth may either

draw a picture or write a sentence or two telling what

they did that month. Contact the Extension Office

for a copy. All Clover Kids who submit a record book

will be recognized at the Awards Celebration and re-

ceive a completion award.
