From Father Mark Mertes, Pastor: Repent and believe in the gospel!

This past Wednesday we began our observation of Lent by being marked with ashes as the minister said “Repent and believe in the gospel.” Two basic ac-tions are indicated: REPENT, from the Greek “metanoia” or literally “change your mind” and then BELIEVE IN THE GOOD NEWS, which is a procla-mation of the new good thing that God is doing in our lives. I pray for us all as Lent unfolds that we may change our mind about anything that is keeping us from the graces of Christ; change our mind about not deserving forgiveness so that we can experience God’s mercy in its fullness; change our mind about felt resentments so that God can set us free; change our mind about assumptions that cause us to judge others so that we can appreciate them in a new light. Lent is designed to be a spring time of hope and joy for us. This year, may it be so! Thanks to all who have made their pledges and gifts to the Archbish-op’s Call to Share. As of 19 February St. Patrick had pledged 140 gifts (12% of parish households) for $39,345 toward our goal of $75,834. We are so grateful for your decisions to support the ministries of the archdiocese. It is never too late to offer your gift!
