SHOMREI TORAH’S WOMEN’S INSTITUTE FOR LEARNING, LEADERSHIP & LEGACY (WILLL)The women of Shomrei Torah have always been dedicated lay
leaders in the community. The Orthodox Union’s Women’s Initiative
Challenge Grant offered us an opportunity to engage an even broader
spectrum of women and girls by developing innovative programming
at both the shul and community levels. Of the more than 100 shuls
that applied, Shomrei Torah was one of only ten to be awarded this
special grant.
WILLL expresses its mission through its three pillars: Learning,
Leadership, and Legacy. We are proud of the initiatives developed in
each area and look forward to strengthening these pillars together.
LEARNING:Shiurim and learning opportunities for women are a significant part
of our shul, both through the classes offered by our rabbis and
rebbetzins, and through our Sisterhood monthly Rosh Chodesh
shiurim and Yemei Iyun (Days of Learning). The WILLL Learning pillar
makes Torah more accessible through live interactive webinars, so
that participants in any location can take part in the classes. Stay
tuned for the next upcoming webinar series!
LEADERSHIP:WILLL encourages women to cultivate their leadership skills and be
active lay leaders in the Orthodox community.
LEGACY:Legacy hinges on the value our Jewish teachings place on the concept
of “mesorah,” tradition. Each individual, with her own knowledge,
experience and wisdom, serves as another link in the chain of our rich
mesorah. The goal of Legacy is to bring multiple generations together,
face to face, to share these ideas and experiences, as we continue to
transmit our special mesorah.
THE DR. DAVID THALER MEMBERS HELPING MEMBERS GROUP Dr. David Thaler, z”l was the go-to professional for those
who needed direction in addressing life’s challenges. He
took great joy in sharing his expertise with the community
and devoted countless hours of pro bono counseling to
many. We are building on David’s legacy by capitalizing
on the skills and abilities of our members to help others
in need. From layoffs to financial struggles to medical
issues, life has its share of ups and downs. But living in
a community means you are not alone and can turn to
your fellow members for help. A list of men and women
who have offered their professional skills and services
is being compiled, including comprehensive bios, type
of services offered, and the professional experience of
each volunteer.
Renee Nussbaum will be the point person to match
those in need with members who can provide assistance.
She can be reached at [email protected]. All
information will be held in the strictest confidence.
LILA LEVINSON BAT MITZVAH PROGRAM Calling all Bat Mitzvah-aged girls and their moms to

teen minyan participation, chessed and community, with
