MEDVEJAMedveja is an old fishermen’s villageIt is believed that it was named after Medea,a
mighty sorceress from the greek mythology The sand beach in Medveja is one of the most
beautiful ones in the northern part of the Adriatic coast
The valley of Medveja is one of the greatest ravine deeply carved into the eastern slope of mountain of Učka

HIDROLOGYThere are many underground and ground
waters that flow down from the mountain into the sea
“Potok”(that litteraly means “The Stream” in Croatian) is the longest stream that goes through the entire route from Lovranska Draga (it starts with a magnificent waterfall) and occasionally crosses the route,untill it finally flows into the sea in Medveja
THE ROUTEThe route is situated on the right side of the
valley and it starts immediately after passing the camping area of Medveja
THE BEGINNINGTHE BEGINNING
DRYWALLSThe most of the route is accompanied by
drywalls,which are very interesting and special because they are completely men-made and and they are not connected with concrete or something similar
Their role was either to fence the property or to build a passage
DRYWALLS-along the walking path
FLORA AND FAUNAThe greatest wealth of this route’s
picturesque landscape is its flora and fauna
FORESTSThe forests become thicker and thicker as the
sea level increases; they mostly consist of oak trees (especially old downy oaks),there are plenty of evergreen forests,chestnut trees,laurel groves and srub
MUSHROOMS AND FLOWERSThere are also some special kinds of
mushrooms and flowers(cyclamen)

ANIMAL WORLD
OPOROVINA“Oporovina” is the central cave of this region
and the oldest one It contains the remains of Roman citizents,
that used to hide in it during the wars,it probably dates from 400-600 AD

The view from the lookout is apsolutely amazing, it is probably the most magnificent view on the sea from the route

LOVRANSKA DRAGA
Lovranska Draga is an old, small village situated on the eastern slope of Učka
it is actually a part of the “Učka” nature park(certain level of protection that covers the most of the Učka mountain)
AGRICULTUREThere are some vineyards and agricultural
areas owned by the locals,the typical local products are cherries and brown chestnuts,localy known as marrons

CULTURAL HERITAGEThe village has its local baroque church
dedicated to St.Michael
“SLAP”WATERFALLThe final destination of the route is the
greatest waterfall in the whole “Učka” nature park called “Slap”,that litterally means “The Waterfall” in Croatian
