with all the separate ruminatingparts making up the whole of his"I," Ashiata Shiemash then determinedthat only if the being-factor called

"objective conscience" still survivingin their common presence, that is tosay, such sacred conscience is not

yet atrophied unlike, unfortunately,the sacred being-impulses of Faith,Love and Hope which have, in factand without doubt, completelydegenerated, were toparticipate in the general

functioning of the consciousnessunder whose direction they passtheir daily "waking existence"-only then would it be possible tosave the contemporary terrestrialthree-brained beings of Earth fromthe consequences of the propertiesof that organ kundabuffer which wasintentionally implanted in theirfirst ancestors.

By example of Gurdjieff himself,pointedness by way of steppingon corns impartially andcleverly without theinevitable prejudiceand intolerance thatgo with ordinary

vindictiveness suchas we see constantlyin the world of politics.

And if this "right kind"of vindictiveness isvoluntarized, as in"role play," it canproduce the necessarypointedness withoutuselessly sufferingthe effects ofidentificationfor yourself as

well as for others,

for it is true THATWE ARE ALREADYIDENTIFIED, EACH ANDEVERY ONE OF US, andso it obviously doesn'thelp if we point thefinger at others forTHEIR identificationas if we are ourselvesnon-identified.

It is, unfortunately for usall, a constant mechanical

tendency to point the fingerat others for their"identification" and behavelike the "Devil the accuser",an unfortunate situationindeed and is, as you all

know, a result of theabnormal conditionsand circumstances ofordinary life whichaffect us all.

To "do" this allows for greaterfreedom of expression and makesit possible to walk on muddy

water in the form of "all themoney hoarded by the peasantsof France," India, Australiaand everywhere else wherepeople exist as "consciousenemies" of Gurdjieff and

who misunderstand his ideasconcerning conscious evolution,cosmic tension, etc. and, instead,have degenerated along involutionaryladders using Gurdjieff's ideas andeven then only selectively for

their own personal gain at theexpense of others.

So, as I have said, "creationof moon" or "role play" is a sortof method for understanding ourown states of identification, inthis case MY IDENTIFICATION, andthe "underlying" as well as"unifying" principle in all ofthis, as is said, "common ground"

THAT UNITES ALL OF US IN THISWORK is the words and ideas ofGurdjieff himself in which we allhave a mutual interest and,hopefully, for the sake ofincreasing the understandingof ourselves and also ofothers.

"Soon after the beginning of my

sixth sojourn I became categoricallyconvinced, as a result of my experimentalinvestigations, that most of the causes of

the strangeness of their psyche lie, not inthat usual consciousness in which they haveautomatized themselves to exist during

whatthey call their 'waking state,' but in theconsciousness which, thanks to their

abnormal ordinary being-existence, wasgradually driven back within their commonpresence and which, although it shouldhave

been their REAL CONSCIOUSNESS,remains inthem in its primitive state and is called

by them the 'SUBCONSCIOUS.'

"This 'SUBCONSCIOUS' is, moreover, justthat part of their general psyche which,as you remember, was first observed bythe Very Saintly Ashiata Shiemash, whoestablished that in it there are not

yet atrophied the data for the fourthsacred impulse, named 'ObjectiveConscience.'"--Gurdjieff--ch 31, sixth descent--Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson

HYPNOTIC STATE

"When I existed among yourfavorites as a professionalhypnotist I carried out myexperiments on their psychechiefly by means of thatparticular state whichcontemporary beingsthere call the'hypnotic

state.'

"To bring them into thisstate, I had recourse atfirst to the same meansused by the beings of theTikliamishian civilizationfor this purpose, that isto say, I acted upon them

with my own 'hanbledzoin.'

"But later, as the being-impulsecalled 'love of kind' frequently

arose in my common presence, Ihad to produce this state in agreat many three-brained beingsthere not only for my personalaims but for their benefit as

well, and since this proved to

be very harmful for my being-existence, I invented anothermeans by which I obtained thesame effect without theexpenditure of my own'hanbledzoin.'
