20TYPES OF DISCUSSION GROUPS 1. Panel Discussionis the most popular group communicationIt is a public or open discussion composed of a moderator and 4 to 6 panelists and the audience.The purpose of a panel discussion is to look into the different aspects of a problem through interaction among the members of the panels.The panelists individually express their views or ideas on the topic and interact with one another.1. Panel Discussion

Symposiumis also a public or open discussion group that combines instruction and discussion.It consists of a moderator and three to 5 experts as members.It differs from the panel because each participant covers only one specific phase of the whole topic under discussion.Each expert presents his prepared speech on the topic assigned.2. Symposium

3. Lecture Panelis also a public or open discussion group headed by a chairperson.A recognized expert on the subject is invited to present a lecture. Consists of a Lecturer, Panelists and Chairperson.Then he/she is interrogated by a panel.The audience listens but may not participate.3. Lecture Panel4. Round Tableis a closed discussion group common in classes where total group interaction is needed.All are participants; there is no moderator.Circular seating arrangement is preferred for informality and sense of closeness.The leader presents the subject or issue and calls on everyone to air his views.The discussion is a learning experience if the participants prepare, participate, keep an open mind, and ask questions.4.
