Williams Foundation Seminar

Guiding the Air Force into the Future

Tenets of Electronic Warfare Tenet 1: The Electro-Magnetic Spectrum (EMS)

permeates the air and space domains.

Tenet 2: Exploiting the EMS can enhance or interfere

with air and space power. (Ignore at your peril).

Tenet 3: Offensive and defensive capabilities of modern

combat systems depend on the assured access to the

EMS.

Tenet 4: Unimpeded access to the EMS and the ability to

restrict its use by an enemy is a critical component of

Australia’s military strategies.

Williams Foundation Seminar

Guiding the Air Force into the Future

Aim Describe how the evolution of airborne Electronic

Attack been defined by an ongoing process of

action-reaction, in which developments in the ability

exploit the EMS have driven advances in the ability

to deny it.

Identify a how the EA-18G can act as a catalyst for a

change in the RAAF’s approach to Electronic

Warfare

The Future?

Williams Foundation Seminar

Guiding the Air Force into the Future

Three Questions How do we ensure the RAAF remains ahead of the

action-reaction cycle in electronic warfare?

How do we ensure we do not focus on the platforms

and instead focus on the effects we need to

generate?

How do we ensure our airmen remain innovative and

not reactionary in providing an air power perspective

on the battle to control and exploit the EMS as part

of the joint force?
