DESCRIPTION

Genome Purpose: Genome allows residents to interact with a genetic laboratory. Tests the efficiency of teaching genetics in a 3-D learning world. Place: Population: Second Life users interested in the the history and biology behind genetics. Could potentially be used by professors who want to teach about genetics in a virtual 3-D environment. Platform: Includes garden based Mendelian genetics, models of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genetics, and samples of population genetics. Each of these displays are interactive and sometimes simulate experiments. Profit Model: Non-profit learning Island. Could potentially be supported by Universities or the general community. Prospect: Could examine modern genetics. For example, the Island could explore the themes presented in Richard Dawkin’s “The Selfish Gene” or the potentials of gene therapy.
