Children are more than just little bodies. They have developing

minds, growing personalities, and impressionable spirits. That’s

why at Grounds For Play we seek to encourage, inspire and

empower children through our play environments. Our mission

is to design and build outdoor play environments for children

of all ages that are safe and encourage social, emotional,

language, cognitive, motor and physical skill development.

We trust you’ll enjoy our uniquely designed Grounds For Play

play environments just as much as your children. Let’s work

together to capture the unique spirit, vision, and character of

your project.

play environments NOT JUST PLAYGROUNDS

are our specialty!

Page 4: Grounds For Play

We are built on an understanding of child development, play,

and safety, which is reflected in the playground equipment

we manufacture and the play environments we design. Our

understanding allows children to learn a variety of developmental

skills while having fun and staying safe on the playground.

We plan educational, safe, and unique play environments, not just

playgrounds. Our environment plans address comprehensive issues,

age-specific needs, and are centered around your objectives. With

over 15,000 playgrounds on our resumé, we have a breadth of

knowledge regarding different regions and climates which could

effect your play environment.

We are committed to staying with our clients from start to finish,

from the first consultation to the ribbon cutting. Our trained

staff and safety-certified installers work together to make your

environment and playground planning experience a successful one.

an extraordinary RECORD OF SAFETY!

Our extraordinary record of safety has allowed us to become the

safest playground manufacturer in the industry. Our commitment

to safety is reflected in each phase of our planning process — from

the materials we use while manufacturing the playground to the

strategic environment design elements like our 6’ obstruction free

fall zones. To ensure that we are not only meeting but exceeding

the standards of ASTM International and the recommendations of

the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), all of our plans

are reviewed by a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI). Our

unique safety standards and commitment to children help make

your play environment the safest it can be!

Physical Play

Movement play, primarily found in physical play, helps to strengthen

the body and helps in the development of gross motor skills.

Additionally, physical play allows for many learning opportunities

in adaptability, flexibility and resilience.

Music & Artistic Play

When allowed to create, whether that be a musical piece or an

art piece, children can access their playfulness, creativity, and

innovative spirits. Music and artistic play also helps to develop a

child’s fine motor skills.

Dramatic Play

Dramatic play allows children to act out everyday scenes allowing

them to make sense of their surroundings and watch life stories

unfold. Dramatic play also encourages communication, sharing,

creativity and emotional play.

Natural Play & the Outdoor Classroom

Research shows children benefit greatly from daily connections with

nature. Additionally, natural play gives a child the opportunity to

explore and understand nature — from caring for flowers and plants

to exploring the ground for creatures.

Our play environments are a collaborative effort between our

Design Consultants (experts in child development, playground

design, and playground safety) and our clients. We understand

Customer Interview

We start by asking you critical questions that will help make your

playground successful and meet your vision and mission. Examples

include:

• What are the goals for your playground?

• What is your curriculum?

• What areas of child development would you like to address?

Site Review & Preliminary Planning

Keeping in mind your budget, available space, intended users,

goals and many other factors, we suggest the level of service

that’s right for you; whether it’s one piece of quality equipment

or the planning and development of your entire outdoor learning

environment. When planning your entire play area, we will apply

the knowledge we have gained in doing more than 15,000

playground projects during the past three decades to create

an environment that fosters the physical, cognitive, social and

emotional development of your children.

Safety & Developmental Review

We understand that there is nothing more important than safety,

which is why every plan is reviewed by experts in early childhood

education for developmental appropriateness and by our Design

Consultants, who are Certified Playground Safety Inspectors, for

safety and functionality, aligning your playground with state and

national standards.

Final Plan

We provide a detailed computer aided design (CAD) drawing that

captures your vision for your playground. This plan will showcase

your full play environment and bring your vision to life.

Manufacturing

Your play equipment is expertly crafted in the United States to

exacting standards by our own craftsmen and is created with

careful attention to detail and safety.

Installation

The last and most exciting step is our installation process!

You will receive a packet containing information that will help you

prepare for the installation process. If professional installation from

Grounds For Play is chosen, your project manager will schedule the

installation of your playground equipment and coordinate all the

ancillary services to get your playground finished on schedule.

The Kinderfrogs School at Texas Christian University provides a developmentally appropriate educational environment for children with intellectual and cognitive developmental delays. With developmentally and age-appropriate play a key goal for any Grounds For Play environment, we knew we could satisfy our client’s needs. By including a Sound Garden, a dramatic play area, an art area, cozy corners and multiple play structures, every child at the Kinderfrogs School has a place to play, explore, and develop.

Research shows children need recess. Not only does it boost social and physical development, it increases focus while children are in the classroom. Woodland Springs’ outdoor play environment encourages both social and physical development through their play structure and surrounding components. Featuring climbers, slides, and an Airplane Panel (which encourages parallel play), musical instruments and a Weather Station, Woodland Springs is a great reference project for those with a small space but seeking great, beneficial play.

This large play structure features components that engage a variety of targeted muscle groups so the students of Timberview Middle School get the physical activity they need. Additional elements such as our Bongo Panel, Upright Piano, Tic-Tac-Toe Panel, and swings were added to encourage social play.

Our Traditional Swings feature 2⅜” galvanized pipe frames and

aluminum castings at the frame’s junctions.

SurfacingThe surface around playground equipment is a critical aspect of play environment design, directly affecting safety,

accessibility, cost, and usability. Since safety is our first concern, we recommend only those surface materials that

have proven track records — not just at the time of installation but over several years and in varying conditions.

The rubber surfacing products we offer do not contain containments that are harmful to children.

Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer (FRP)

The 4” x 4” Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer posts found on

our play equipment are extruded from a composite resin

material and have a wall thickness of .22”, the thickest in the

playground industry! Corners are rounded for safety and our

composite roof and deck brackets contribute to the overall

low-maintenance and rust-free nature of our equipment.

Trex®

Trex® consists of recycled post-consumer plastic and recycled

post-production or recovered wood fibers, providing an

inviting natural wood look without the maintenance. Decks,

ramps, and bridges are manufactured using Trex®, which

provides a child-friendly, low-maintenance, slip-resistant

surface even when wet. Available in a variety of colors, Trex®

won’t crack or peel like PVC-coated decks, which are typical

of most playground equipment.

Polytone

Polytone panels are machine-cut from extruded, stress-

relieved, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic in 1/2” or

3/4” thickness, depending on the application. The molded-in

color and durable plastic provide low-maintenance and cost-

effective components.

Rotationally Molded Plastic

Rotationally molded one-piece slides and roofs are durable,

colorful, and low-maintenance features of all our play

systems. The linear low-density polyethylene components

are manufactured with a minimum 3/16” wall thickness.

Metal

Our rails, posts, handrails, ladders and other metal

components are manufactured using RS20 Flocoat Steel

Tubing. Welds are de-burred before a high-quality, dry

polyester powder-coated finish is applied.

Hardware

Our hardware has been selected for quality and durability.

Stainless steel hardware is used in over 90% of all

applications, except in specific applications such as drilling

through hardened steel where a Tek Bi-Metal Steel Shaft

Screw is used with a stainless steel head.

Full product specifications available upon request.

For your protection and the safety of children, insist that your playground equipment provider certify that your equipment as installed conforms to the guidelines of the most recent United States Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Public Playground Safety Handbook.

Grounds For Play, Inc. is a member of IPEMA™ (International Play Equipment
