Großer Heinrich: Astrid Großer and Gerti Heinrich Großer Heinrich is a German fashion label formed by Astrid Großer and Gerti Heinrich. They specialise in avant-garde knitwear, developing intricate prints on high quality silk pieces. Their production is based exclusively in Germany, in collaboration with the knitwear company Strickchic. Astrid and Gerti started collaborating at Hannover’s University of Applied Sciences and Arts. As they completed their studies they went their separate ways to gain experience with established designers. Gerti interned at Vivienne Westwood for five months and at Peter Pilotto for another three when she lived London, whereas Astrid moved to Berlin to work for C . Neeon. In 2010 they finally reunited and founded their own label, Großer Heinrich, whilst working for the knitwear factory Strickchic. Mr. Gerald Rosner, the owner of the company, decided to support the emerging label’s production, which led the designer duo to work in Apolda for two months and then fly to Paris to present their S/S2011 collection at Capsule. “Founding your own label is hell and paradise all in one. It would be great if one could only care about the design and the creative part, but having a label is so much more than that, and the hardest thing is making sure you have the means to produce your next collection”, stated Großer Heinrich. In May 2010 Großer Heinrich took part in the Baltic Fashion Award, and won first price for “Best Prèt-à-Porter Female Collection”. This gave them the chance to showcase their collection at the Baltic Fashion Award Catwalk during Berlin Fashion week in January 2011. In November 2010 they also won the Lithuanian contest MadosInjekcija, which led them to present their A/W2011- 12 collection in March 2011 at the Madosinfekcija festival.
