Job Description
Goodwill Rescue Mission (GRM), Founded 1896

Newark to encounter Christ through compassionate care that meets their immediate needs
encouraging many to dare to hope for a life of dignity made possible through the Mission’s
spiritually rich and vocationally focused program of sustainable comprehensive life
transformation.

Position: Development Associate
Job Status: Salary; Exempt
Reports to: Director of Development
Position Summary: The Development Associate is responsible for all administrative aspects of
development and public relations activities, working closely with GRM staff and consultants to
achieve the goals of the organization’s marketing and fundraising program.
Responsibilities Include:
1. On a daily basis, assist the Director of Development and the development team with
administrative duties and functions.
2. Plan, coordinate, and execute special events.
3. Develop and manage content for social media and email marketing.

4. Assist with volunteer management, working closely with GRM staff in assuring that
individuals and groups are properly cared for and followed-up with.
5. Be trained on Raiser’s Edge software and learn all aspects of the gift processing,
including gift entry and thank you receipting.
6. Make donor thank you calls, engaging the donors in conversation, with the goal of
inviting them into a deeper relationship with the Mission.
7. Work with GRM program staff to gather content for direct mail elements, such as stories
for newsletters, photographs, statistics, advertisements, and other resources.
8. Manage relationships with outside vendors, including direct mail and marketing
support, gathering content for website updates.
9. Review all promotional and marketing material copy and artwork for spelling, grammar,
factual details and design layout.
10. Oversee processing thank you letters & correspondence to major donors, businesses,
churches and associations, assuring timely receipts.
11. Routinely interact with residents, guests, volunteers, and visitors.
12. Assist with donor concerns and to communicate issues of concern to the Director of
Development or appropriate staff.
13. On an as needed basis, assist in the writing and creation of publicity materials, e.g.
brochures, fliers, invitations, etc.
14. Assist in promoting Goodwill Rescue Mission at events (e.g. Civic and Community
Events, Church Mission Fairs, etc.) as needed.
15. Lead in prayer, Bible study, or devotions during staff meetings.
16. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Computer literate.
2. Strong experience with Microsoft Office products. This includes the knowledge and
ability to perform mail merge functions.
3. Working knowledge of database management. Experience with Raiser’s Edge
fundraising software a plus, but not necessary. Training will be provided.
4. Good writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
5. Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, planning, records management,
and general administration.
6. Ability to communicate effectively.
7. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
8. Ability to problem solve and deal with confrontation in a calm, reconciling manner.
9. Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
