Coach Wayne Tinkle Quotes On:

ISU GAME: “It’s going to be an interesting match-up,

especially with (head coach) Bill Evans’ defense. They

play a little tandem guard match-up zone. They fly

around and really make it difficult for you to get into a

rhy

thm offensively. That why they’re able to hold teams to

the fewest amount of points (61.4 ppg) in league.

“But the teams that have gotten stops on them have

gotten out in transition and caused them trouble. (Senior

guard) Melvin Morgan was really struggling shooting the

ball early-on, and now he’s kind of finding his way.

They’ve added some nice players in (sophomore guard-

forward) Chris Hansen and (junior guard) Tomas

Sanchez.

“They’ve got some capable guys. They’re mature kids

- they’ve been there, and he’s got them playing hard, so

it’s going to be a tough match-up.”

THE GRIZ: “We kind of hoped that in Will’s (Cherry)

absence some other guys would get some experience and

toughness. If we could survive some of those shots to

the chin that we took in the preseason that we’d be in a

position like this, where guys are ready to go when they

are called upon.

“The neat thing is that it seems like it’s a different guy

every night. Whether it’s Michael (Weisner), or Spencer

(Coleman), or Jordan Gregory, or Kevin Henderson at

times. We’ve got a nice group of four guys there who we

know can give us a spark off the bench, or as starters for

that matter. And you can add Keron DeShields to the

mix.

“It’s nice that our big three (Cherry, Jamar, and Ward)

are kind of hitting their groove, but it makes you feel

pretty comfortable as a staff when you’ve got a handful

of other guys ready to do it as well.”

ON LOOKING AHEAD TO SATURDAY’S GAME

AGAINST WSU: “It’s not hard to focus on the job at

hand. It’s like last week. We had Southern Utah on

Thursday ahead of Montana State. It’s kind of a similar

approach. Saturday’s going to mean something regard-

less, but if we don’t take care of Idaho State on Thurs-

day maybe it won’t be quite the same. We know what

we’ve got on our plate for Thursday night and we will

prepare accordingly and be ready to go.”
