If you have not attended any SCA events all that you must do is make an attempt at pre 1600 clothing. It is traditional that you bring your own eating implements to any feasts. Clothing and feasting gear may be hired from the Hospitaller who is listed on the last page.

Problems with the July issue. Dancetty and Mummery had their phone numbers interchanged. If you have any comments about Griffintayle and especially if you spot any errors please write them down and send it to me. Also items for inclusion in each issue of Griffintayle MUST be received on the third Wednesday of the month prior to the month of issue. If needed items may be faxed to the editor but please ring (06) 216 4636 during office hours.

I Local events.

At the Australian National Library in the Peoples Treasure section are four books of hours and a bible on display. Also two books by Albrecht Durer and one of his woodcuts. A Korean book called Sarngang huengsilto. printed in 1490, is also displayed there. Also in the recent acquisitions display, which is on the way to the main reading room, is a coloured world map printed in 1588.

Orlando is now showing at Electric Shadows. On Sunday the 17th of October 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead' and 'Henry V' are the Sunday night double for $8.00.

Shepherds feast was stressful at the start due to a lack of tables. Please get your advancement notes in. 12th night site check was cancelled due to rain. Copies of Officers reports to the Seneschal please. New officers should write to their superiors.

Herald·. Order of precedence for Lochac arrived today . Voice heraldry occurred last weekend . Would like the heraldry office to be up to baronial level active rosters.

Promises: Due to circumstances beyond our control !he next issue will be delayed.

Arts and Sandra did candied fruits and violets. It will be once a month for a while. History of Sciences: shoes on the 24th of August. There will be an open chivalry meeting on the 28th of

September.

Lists: No tourneys held.

Chirurgeon: Under age person cut their hand. Please make sure that the legal angle is covered.

Griffintayle; The August issue is not yet finished .

College Events should be set up as inter varsity events. The AGM didn't quite work. Seneschal:

Chandler: Is a birthday boy. Most of the hospitall~r stuff is at the mummery. Will need a new chest soon. Hospitaller has brought in $80 .00 over the last month for costume hire to private functions. Stock take in the not too far distant future. Also sewing bee in the future .

Assistant No new authorising. Tourney for the 29/8/93 . Marshal:

Fencing: Tourney on the 25 September for Rapier with Arts and Sciences proses donated. Also catered Pic-Nic. In the park at the end of Y arralumla.

Hospitaller: Got to ring the college people. Womble feast is being organised. Song books requested.

Constables: Signed up some new constables. There is a large amount oflost property from the last feast .

Feast went well with a $101.25 profit. Trying to get a larger refund from the hall due to the lack of tables. Dickson Woolworths baker will do a deal for cheaper bread if they are notified before hand .

Handed a copy of'We will rule you' to Hazel.

Rowany is having a Crossroads Benefit Feast. The Lochac seneschal is happy about it. Is there a chance that Politarchopolis could do one here? Also the meeting allowed Crossroads to use the Griffintayle mailing list.

Organising a light infimtry Pas de Arms on the 6th November. 12.00pm at Southwell Park.

Official letter from Gladiamus about the Lord of the Rings cycle in September. They need six fighters to do fight scenes. Any comments please contact me. Rehearsals over the weekend after September Coronet.

Combat Archery is three times bigger. There is a source of rattan in Fyshwick. $4.00-5.00/meter. Any diameter and skinned or unskinned. Table runners with screen printed griffins. Need a source of very cheap fabric . About 150 meters. A reminder that the Town archer is on this Sunday.

Sandra introduced her husband Lee. Organising the AME school everu on 14th August. John left ar this point and Beth took notes for the rest of the meeting. On 16th Oct it is Sandra's 50th birthday. Everyone is invited to the Hareem Restaurant in Kingston. Please book.

Collins Bookstores have the Medieval Crafts Series Smiths has a book on Celtic knot work.

Library vs Database of peoples books .. - Womble database Jacinta raised objections about having collections mixed. Helen suggested that there is a better use of the money elsewhere. After some discussion it was put on hold.

The Rialto suggests that there will soon be membership requirements for all fighters.

Reeve is trying to get a $3,000 float. Hazel - Newcomer library what to where and when. Helen - A database probably more useful. David - With a donation based library not necessary to buy anything. Megan - Topic to be discussed at the next meeting after discussion with anyone not here.

I Crossroads

Just a reminder that every Thursday night at Cross Florey (25 Rowe Place, Swinger Hill, ph 290 1492) there are news reports on how Crossroads is going and talks on various subjects to do with Crossroads. Many other activities also take place.

The Ancient Arts Fellowship presents A

MEDIEVAL FEAST Saturday 16 Octoba 1993

Hall Pavilion 7 .30pm

Canberra's med:eval re-enactment society, the Ancient Arts Fellowship, is holding a feast to mark the close of the season.

It is a pot luck feast which means everyone is requested to bring a plate of food which will be shared amongst all, such as soups, chick~ns, cold meats, cheeses, bread, pies, vegetable dishes (or anything that tastes good), as well as their own drinks. It is advisable to bring a plate or bowl, knife and spoon, and your own goblet, tankard or other drinking vessel. Medieval costume is preferred but not compulsory (you can always whip up a quick tunic).

As well as the feast which will be served in three courses, there will be a number of competitions and awards (for which there will be a s~all prize) including:

bardic (time limit 5 minutes per entry)

* grovelling

* best costume

* - best fooc dish

most festive attendee

* door prize

There will also ~e a demonstration of medieval combat by some of the senior warriors in full dark age gear, and presentations for some of AAF's fighters will be announced.

The feast will finish between 11.30 and 12.00. To cover the costs of hall hire, candles, table cloths, prizes, etc. entry to the feast will be:

$3.00 financial members of AAF and the SCA

$3.50 for those which the above does not apply
