Those who have completed the Vocational Qualification in Social and Health Care (Practical Nurse, Study Programme in Nursing and Care) shall know how to

- care for patients holistically and meet their clients in a personal and polite manner;

- establish care relationships with people of different ages, cultural backgrounds and religious convictions;

- draw up and use treatment and service plans in the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing;

- carry out the most common treatments and examinations used for nursing medical-surgical diseases;

- provide basic care and also carry out the most common nursing interventions, such as the treatment of wounds, isolation

measures, treatment of stomata, tube feeding, urinary catheterisation, administration of injections, and to act in

situations involving resuscitation; - command pre- and postoperative nursing

methods, work aseptically and treat pain; - comply with occupational safety regulations

and possess the potential to function as entrepreneurs in the field;

- take their clients’ social networks into account in their work and be familiar with the foundations of family-focused work;

- also support the independent living and life management of clients with mental or substance abuse problems in their

home environment; - use the other national language in their

- care for, educate and guide children and young people of different ages at homes and day-care centres;

- dose and administer drugs in accordance with instructions (p.o., rect., inhalation, s.c. and i.m. injections), being familiar

with drug groups, drug forms, drug administration methods and national legislation governing pharmacotherapy, and to

guide clients in issues related to pharmacotherapy; - systematically implement basic nursing and care

for clients of different ages at institutions and in home care;

- command the essential nursing and care skills (assistance in personal hygiene and bed baths, eating, drinking, excreting,

moving about, skin care, foot and oral care, etc.) and to administer first aid;

assist clients in coping with maintaining the cleanliness and pleasantness of their homes and attend to household management (cleaning, looking after clothing and laundry, cooking, including special dietary requirements, such as a diabetic diet, etc.) when clients are unable to do so for themselves;

support the physical, psychological, social and educational rehabilitation of clients, guide clients in the use and acquisition of aids and independently apply ergonomically correct working methods;

- command the foundations of social and health care occupations in society, the essential legislation and the national service system and act in accordance with the field’s basic values and the principles of occupational ethics.

Those who have completed the Vocational Qualification in Social and Health Care (Practical Nurse, Study Programme in Care for the Elderly) shall know how to

- guide elderly people in maintaining social relationships and in leisure interests;

- guide clients in the use of aids and promote the pleasantness and safety of their living environments;

guide clients in issues related to ageing, the most common physical and mental diseases associated with old age and their pharmacotherapy;

- function in palliative care and support elderly people’s close friends and relatives in facing bereavement;

- use the other national language in their work; -

Those who have completed the Vocational Qualification in Social and Health Care (Practical Nurse, Study Programme in Rehabilitation) shall know how to

- evaluate the physical functional abilities and condition of their clients so as to be able to guide and assist clients in

moving and in daily activities (activating movements, relaxation, postural therapy, shifting, etc.);

- draw up and use treatment, service and rehabilitation plans in the planning, implementation and evaluation of their work as well as to revise them according to individual clients’ situations;

- plan and provide classical massage, thermo-, cryo- and hydrotherapies and TNS therapy and evaluate the effects of

treatments provided on the client; - guide clients participating in rehabilitation

in the use of aids and support their self-care skills in moving about and in independent living;

- plan and implement health-promoting forms of physical exercise for groups, such as Nordic walking, games, gymnastics at home and in a swimming pool

- use the most common communication methods compensating for speech, computer-assisted communication and new equipment technology in their work and be familiar with different security systems; - support the independent living and life management of clients with mental or substance abuse problems; -
