Greetings Allisonville Alligators! January 29, 2021
Thanks to those who were able to visit our virtual Family Literacy Night last night with author, Shannon
Anderson. Her message of a growth mindset vs. a fixed mindset was amazing and emphasized the importance
developing resiliency in our children, setting goals, and encouraging mistakes because that is how the human
brain grows. She taught us that FAIL actually means a chance to learn and start again: First Attempt In Learning.
What a great message!
Next Wednesday, February 3rd
is World Read Aloud Day. We will be focusing on all things reading at Allisonville
on Wednesday. Teachers are working each day to help students increase their reading stamina. Reading is just
like riding a bike or playing and instrument, the more you do it, the better you get! Check out this chart that
explains why reading for pleasure each day is so important:
February starts on Monday! During this month, we are looking forward to celebrating Black History Month.
Students will be learning and celebrating black history through specific class lessons, daily announcements, spirit
week, and a culminating BHM Showcase during February’s Gator Gathering at the end of the month. More detailed information coming soon about how we will celebrate Black History Month at AV.
Relax and stay warm this weekend!

Lost and Found Please make sure you are writing your child’s name on all personal items: coats, lunch boxes, water bottles. We have already accumulated quite a large collection of unclaimed items! If you are missing something,
please have your student stop into the cafeteria and search the lost and found.
Dyslexia Screener As part of our assessment process in Indiana, students are screened for dyslexia to insure we continue to meet
their reading needs. Dyslexia testing will be occurring during the month of February and March. If students
need further intervention or testing beyond the universal screener, we will be in contact with parents to let you
know.
Donations Appreciated! We would greatly appreciate any donations of Kleenex and refillable water bottles. It is necessary for all
students to have a refillable water bottle as all of our water fountains are closed due to COVID.
