Pentecost9.30am Service of Holy Communion

(09Alt Serv)GreetingBlessed be God:Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Blessed be God’s kingdom, now and for ever.

The Lord be with you.And also with you.

The love of Christ urges us on, because we are convinced that one has died for all, so that those who live might live not for themselves, but for him who died and was raised for them.

2 Corinthian 5.14-15

First Hymn (477TiS) STUTTGART 272TiS

Jesus calls us here to meet himas, through word and song and prayer,we affirm God's promised presencewhere his people live and care.Praise the God who keeps his promise;praise the Son who calls us friends;praise the Spirit who, among us,to our hopes and fears attends.

Jesus calls us to each other:

found in him are no divides.Race and class and sex and languagesuch are barriers he derides.Join the hand of friend and stranger;join the hands of age and youth;join the faithful and the doubterin their common search for truth

Jesus calls us to his tablerooted firm in time and space, where the church in earth and heavenfinds a common meeting place.Share the bread and wine, his body;share the love of which we sing;share the feast for saints and sinnershosted by our Lord and King.

Spirit amid all perils and temptations, that we may not wander from your way, but may run our course in safety until we come to our eternal rest in you; through the grace of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.Song of Songs 3.1-4aUpon my bed at night I sought him whom my soul loves;I sought him, but found him not; I called him, but he gave no answer. “I will rise now and go about the city, in the streets and in the squares; I will seek him whom my soul loves.” I sought him but found him not. The sentinels found me, as they went about in the city. “Have you seen him whom my soul loves?” Scarcely had I passed them, when I found him whom my soul loves.Psalm 703TiSAs a deer pants for the water,so my soul longs after you.You alone are my heart’s desireand I long to worship you.

You alone are my strength, my shield,to you alone may my spirit yield.

You alone are my heart’s desireand I long to worship you.

I want You more than gold or silver,Only You can satisfy. You alone are the real joy Giver,And the apple of my eye.

You alone are my strength…

You're my friend and You are my brother,Even though you are a king.I love you more than any other,So much more than anything.

You alone are my strength…Martin Nystrom 1956-, Based on Psalm 42:1-2

2 Corinthians 5.14-21For the love of Christ urges us on, because we are convinced that one has died for all; therefore, all have died. And he died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and was raised for them. From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way. So, if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old

has passed away; see, everything has become new! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So, we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.Gospel AcclamationWisdom of our God and Saviour, be for us a treasure rare. Make us, as your true disciples, rich in service, faith and prayer.

Holy food of all who hunger, fill our empty hearts anew; give us strength and joy for living, call your friends to feast with you.

Hope and seal of our salvation, make our call to mission clear; send us, with your lively blessing, to proclaim your presence here.

John 20.1-18Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So, she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.’ Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went towards the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that

he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples returned to their homes. But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping?’ She said to them, ‘They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.’ When she had said this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping? For whom are you looking?’ Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, ‘Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Mary!’ She turned and said to him in Hebrew, ‘Rabbouni!’ (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, ‘Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father,

to my God and your God.”’ Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, ‘I have seen the Lord’; and she told them that he had said these things to her.Sermon

human hands. It will become for us the cup of salvation.

Blessed be God for ever.

Great ThanksgivingThe Lord be with you.And also with you.Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

With all our hearts we praise you, faithful God.In the beginning, you called light to shine in darkness, you made living things to grow and flourishand you created human beings to bear your image. You chose us in love, guided us by your presenceand blessed us with your holy law.Yet we chose our own sinful ways.We broke your commandments, persecuted your prophets, forgot your wisdomand, time after time, refused to answer your call.

So, you spoke an eternal wordin a human voicein Jesus of Nazareth, son of Mary, Son of God.He called and people followed, leaving every other loyalty. He set them free to praise your holy name. But hatred and violence shouted Jesus down.Betrayed and abandoned and nailed to a cross,he laid down his life for the world he loved. Then your love worked its greatest wonder in the grave. On the third day you raised him upand turned our sorrow into joy.So, we praise you, holy God, with Mary Magdalene, and all the saints, and with angels and archangelsand your people everywhere:Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory.[Hosanna] hosanna[Hosanna] hosannaHosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. [Hosanna] hosanna[Hosanna] hosannaHosanna in the highest.

On the night before he died,Jesus gathered with his friendsto share a meal and wash their feet, teaching one last lesson of love.He took bread and blessed it and broke it.He gave it to them and said:

“Take this and eat it.This is my body.”

Then he took a cup of wine and blessed it.He gave it to them and said:

“Take this and drink it.This is my blood, sealing God’s promise to forgive your sins.Whenever you do this,do it in memory of me.”

As we share these holy gifts,we remember the Lord Jesusfor the love he taught us,the sacrifice he made for usand the hope he gives us.In faith we acclaim you, O Christ:Christ has died.Christ is risen.

Christ will come again.(Repeat)

And now, faithful God, send us your Spirit,to make us one body in Christas we receivethe bread of heaven and the cup of salvation, the body and the blood of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.Fill us with energy, courage and loveand send us as your messengers to the world. Now to you, most holy God,through Christ your Son and in the Spirit’s power,we bring our worship and our songs of praise:Blessing and honour and glory and power are yours for ever and ever. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer Rejoicing in the presence of God here among us, as our Saviour taught us, so we pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.
