Mayfield Village
Greenway Corridor• Greenways serve as natural floodplains.
• Trails and greenways are hands-on environ-
mental classrooms.
• To build a better life. Trails and greenways
provide what many Americans seek—close-to-
home recreational areas, community meeting
places, educational experiences, natural land-
scapes and beautification. They help commu-
nities build pride by ensuring that their
neighborhoods are good places to live where
children can safely walk or bike to a park or
school.
• In Mayfield Village, the Greenway Corridor will
provide a safe walking and biking route from
Center School on Wilson Mills Road to Park-
view Pool, playgrounds, baseball and soccer
fields, the Cuyahoga County Library’s new May-
field Branch, and ultimately the North Chagrin
Reservation of the Metroparks.
• Greenways and trails help make communities
more attractive and friendly places to live.
Greenways are corridors of protected open
space managed for conservation and rec-
reational purposes. Trails are paths used
for walking, bicycling and other forms of
recreation.
Why establish trails and greenways?
• Trails and greenways provide countless oppor-
tunities for economic renewal and growth. In-
creased property value and tourism and rec-
reation-related spending positively impact
community economies.
• Promotion of healthy living. Trails and green-
ways provide a safe, inexpensive avenue for
regular exercise for people living in rural, urban
and suburban areas.
• Greenways protect important habitat and pro-
vide corridors for people and wildlife.
• Trails and greenways help improve air and wa-
ter quality. Providing enjoyable and safe op-
tions for transportation reduces air pollution.
Protecting land along rivers and streams pre-
vents soil erosion and filters pollution caused
by road runoff.
