The Greenville Public Library’s resident experts work hard on their Minecraft Worlds.

Minecraft is a video game in which players create and break apart various kinds of blocks in 3D worlds. It has been described as computer LEGOs. The game can be played in creative or survival mode. The purpose of the game is to build, explore and sometimes to survive.

The KNITTING MAVENS meet on Tuesdays from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. New members are welcome.

Mrs. Anna Pernorio is exhibiting her small artwork pieces in the Castle Display Case.

Members of the MYSTERY BOOK CLUB are discussing Afterwards by Rosamund Lupton on Tuesday, August 5 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. New members are always welcome.

Members of the PICNIC TABLE READS CLUB are discussing Tomorrow There Will Be Apricots by Jessica Soffer on Thurs-day, August 21 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. New mem-bers are always welcome.

Stomp RocketsWho knew that PVC, duct tape and a 2 liter bottle could be so much fun! These DIY stomp rockets were propelled by the air in the bottle and the kid's enthusi-asm.

The Summer Reading Program will be ending on

Saturday, August 9th.

To qualify for one of the

Grand Prize Drawing

prizes, you must have

turned in your

completed reading slips

by the end of that day.

The winners will be

chosen by a random drawing of all the eligible

entries and announced on August 18th.

We have a display of the Smithfield High School and Gallagher Middle School Summer Reading books in the Young Adult Area.

The Baker Room was only open this

summer on six Wednesday afternoons. On those

days we played Minecraft on all of the machines in

the room. There is one week left of Summer

Minecraft (Aug 6th). Sign up is online for this

program. The hours will be from 2:30-4:30.

Anyone 11-17 or grade 6-12 may attend. Don't

worry if you have to miss this one, we will be

playing Minecraft in the Baker Room every Friday

during the school year.

We are taking the month of August off for our LEGO Event.

Greenville teens plan the event for children ages 5 1/2-11. Email Rhonda at [email protected] if you are interested in helping to plan the event when it resumes in September.

LEGO Donations ALWAYS Welcome

Robots on the RunAugust 7th 2:00-4:00Space is limited! Sign up online at www.yourlibrary.wsand it is for anyone 11-17 or grade 6-12.The Rhode Island Computer Museum will present a

free Workshop called "Robots on the Run." The

workshop aims to explain basic circuits and

instructions on how to build a

simple robot. You will learn

instructions for making sounds,

making lights blink, motors run,

and a lot more. We'll take time to

learn about interactive software

titled "Arduino" and you can

create your own sample "Robot."

The Baker AfterSchool Center will be open on the first day of school (from 2:00-5:30) and every afternoon when school is in session for the school year. This year our opening day is on Tuesday, August 26th. We have computers, tables to work on for projects and homework, and a librarian to assist you. If you need a break from school work there will also be special days that will include crafts, games, cooking, and new this year, “Minecraft Fridays”. Updates will be posted on our FaceBook page at Greenville Public Library TeenScape. It is available for anyone in grades 6-12 and no sign up is necessary!

Children’s Department ENRICHRI

Join us on Thursday, August 28 from 6-7:30pm for Homeschool 101: A Workshop for Parents New to Homeschooling or Interested in Homeschooling

The topics that will be discussed include:* Homeschooling in Rhode Island: state laws, district policies and what to submit

* 101 Reasons Families Choose to Homeschool* Curriculum Planning: Resources, Learning Styles, Homeschooling Methods, A Typical Homeschool Day

* The “S” word : socializationMembers of the ENRICHri Executive Board, with many years of homeschooling experience,

will present this program that covers the basics of homeschooling.We request that children are left at home as this event will be geared toward adults.

Bryant University Tutors The Greenville Public Library and Bryant University are once again participating in a Federal Work-Study Program as part of the America Reads Challenge to pro-vide Reading Tutors to elementary school children who would like extra help in improving their reading and comprehen-sion skills. It is our hope to team several elementary students in the community with a Bryant student involved in the pro-gram. Students will be matched up on a first-come-first-served basis. Applications may be picked up in the Children’s Room of the Library beginning August 12 and should be returned by August 25. Please call 949-3630 x2 for more information. The program is scheduled to begin in Septem-ber. Space is limited.

Bedtime StorytimeThe last summer bedtime sto-ry time for children ages 3 -5 1/2 will be held from 6:30-7:15 pm on Wednesday, August 13 . Children may wear their pajamas.

Book Buddies Book buddies have their final meeting on Tuesday, August 5 at 10:30 am and 6:30 pm. Teens agreed to buddy-up with a younger child (ages 3 1/2- 8) to read for an hour in a one-on-one session. Please call the library to check on availability.

Art class with Miss Adele The last summer art class will meet on Friday, August 1 at 12:30 for ages 6-10. Call to check on availability.

Children’s BubbleSevag Bastajian ,age ten, will display his Pokemon collection in the Children’s Room Bubble. Sevag’s cousin inspired him to collect Pokémon. Pokémon fans are sure to enjoy viewing Sevag’s collection!

Hampstead Theatre Com-pany performs Alice in Won-derland Friday, August 15 at 2:00 for children ages 4 -11 Registrations required This performance concludes our Summer Reading Program. Any participant who did not receive his/her completion prize and certificate may do so at the end of this program. Refreshments will be served.

Storytime Registration Registration for the fall series of storytime will take place from September 22-27. Story-times for children from ages 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 will be held Mon-days at 10:15 am; for ages 2 1/2 - 3 1/2, Fridays at 10:15 or 11:15; for ages 3 1/2 - K, Wednesdays at 10:30 am or 1 pm. Sessions will begin October 6. Pre-registration is required for all storytimes and may be done by phone or in person. Please call 949-3630 ext. 2.

Back to School CraftGo back to school in style with a fun pencil topper and a felt bookmark! Children ages 6-10 are invited to join us on Wednesday, September 17, at 4 PM, for this fun craft. Regis-tration begins on September 2.
