Shop our sale of books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, and library swag while outside enjoying the spring weather. Your purchase benefits the Friends of the Library which supports children’s programming, the museum pass program, and the library book fund. Hardcovers: $1; Paperbacks: .50; DVDs/CDs: $1; Children’s hardcovers: .50; Children’s paperbacks: .25. Masks will be required and social distancing must be practiced will shopping the sale. The Library is looking for anyone interested in purchasing a tree or sharing in the purchase of a tree. Our parking lot project had some unexpected costs from the removal of ledge, a pipe disruption, and a handicapped sidewalk adjustment. These costs were covered by our landscaping budget which is why we are appealing to you. We are looking for the following trees; (1) Copper Beach $700.00, (7) Kousa Dogwoods $600.00 each, and (6) Appalachian Spring Dogwoods $600.00 each. The price includes the cost of the trees along with the planting. These trees hopefully will be planted in May and will make a great birthday, anniversary, or remembrance gift. All donors will be given a small plaque to place a name and date on for placement next to the tree. Join us virtually for the Wildlife Solutions Series presented by RI DEM. American black bears disappeared from Rhode Island and much of New England following colonization, but with populations in surrounding states growing, Rhode Island will soon see their return. Already, black bear sightings are becoming more frequent and concerns about encounters are common. If communities can come together and integrate bear- conscience strategies, we can avoid problems with bears in advance of their establishment. This session will address what to do when encountering a bear, how to avoid drawing bears to your yard, and present the results of the DEM American Black Bear Study. Poets of all ages are invited to enter the Greenville Public Library’s 4th annual poetry contest. Poets may enter from April 1-24, 2021. Poets may submit their poems in person at the library, by mail, or through an online form. The winners will be announced at a virtual poetry reading via Zoom on Saturday, May 1. Contest Guidelines:• Each poet may submit one poem for

consideration.• Poets may use any poetic form.• Poems may not be longer than 1

typed page.• The Woodland Whispers Committee

will select one winner in each age group: children (through grade 5); young adults (grades 6-12); adults (18+)

• There will be no winner in any category with only 1 entry

• Poets do not need to attend the virtual poetry reading to win.

2021 Poetry ContestPick out free seeds for your garden courtesy of Ocean State Job Lot and URI Cooperative Extension Free Seed Program. This annual program of the URI Master Gardeners was facilitated by organizers throughout the state this year. Special thanks to Farm Fresh RI for organizing the seed donation for the library.

Seeds are limited this year. Please take only what you know you will use for your garden/family. You may visit the library anytime during regular hours to pick up seeds.

Library Happenings

This April, The Greenville Public Library will host an exhibition featuring four New England based photographers. This show will be on view through the month and features work by George Annnan, E. Schmidt, Ethan Hall, and Alison Beaudette. Although the pieces on view vary in medium, subject and theme - they remain in relation to one another based on the artist’s connections growing up across New England.
