“A Living School”

From the Administrators: Can you believe that it is almost May? The Spring weather has finally arrived. Students are encouraged to dress for the weather and be prepared for the varying weather conditions that come with Spring. Although we have two months of the school year remaining, we are starting to look ahead to next school year, in terms of planning.

Every year in late May or early June, we organize classes for the following year. Input is appreciated from parents when we are making these placement decisions. Our main objective is to create classes that will provide the optimum learning environment for everyone.

We are beginning to make decisions about the next school year. If you will not be returning to Greensborough in September, please write a note to the school informing us of your intentions. This will help us in getting a sense of our class sizes for next year.

We recognize that children have their own learning styles. We appreciate that parents have valuable information to share with us as we make placement decisions based on children’s capabilities, gender, work habits and behaviours. Teachers have the benefit of knowing the children with whom they are currently working. We rely on their profes-sional decisions. If you have information or suggestions regarding your child’s learning style, which will help teachers make an appropriate placement, please write a note to Mr. Spiers before May 5th.

Requests will be accommodated only where placement will enhance a child’s learning. Parents are reminded that schools combine classes for a variety of reasons. This includes organizing classes to meet student learning needs and combining classes to balance class size. All classrooms include students with a range of skills and abilities. They are simply one of the many ways schools meet students’ academic and social development needs. Requests for class placements will be considered where it will enhance a child’s learning but with no guarantees.

The grade 3 and 6 students will be taking part in the Provincial Assessment of Reading, Writing and Math during the weeks of May 23—June 1, 2017. Grade 3’s will be writing the Provincial Assessment from May 30 - June 1 and the grade 6’s will be writing on May 26, 29 and 30. Please do not book any appointments for your child during these two weeks as students must complete the entire assessment.

Grade 8 Graduation

Grade 8 Graduation will be held on June 27th. Please save the date in your calendar. Further details regarding time and place will follow.

THANK YOU!

A very special thank you to Louise Kool & Galt (educational resources) and Tina Sharma (parent and school council member) who donated many of our prizes at our school’s recent Math Night. We are very thankful for their partnership with us, to provide mathematical games and activities, to further Greensborough’s students’ love of math.

We are asking your help in locating a number of clarinets which have gone missing in case any of them happen to be at home with your child. From time to time students will take an instrument home to practice and forget to bring it back.

The missing clarinets will be in a black case with “GPS” on the front and a number on the side. If by chance one or more clarinets turn up in your home please ask your child to return the instrument(s) to the music room where we will be more than delighted to have them back.

Message from the Music Department

You're the Chef- Greensborough

You're the Chef is a cooking program designed to help develop the skills and confidence necessary for our intermediate students to prepare healthy and tasty recipes, emphasizing vegetables and fruit.

Along with recipe preparation, students are taught basic kitchen safety, food safety, cooking techniques and healthy eating principles based on Canada's Food Guide. Thank you to Mme. Dawson and Ms. Patel for leading this programme!

On April 6th, Greensborough held our first Diversity Fair. The evening was a huge success! We were overwhelmed by how many people were in attendance; enjoying the multitude of entertainment as well as several interactive stations. The food was also delicious! It was an amazing opportunity to come together and celebrate the diversity of our community. This diversity remains our strength.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mosaic committee at Greensborough for their hard work and dedication in planning this spectacular event. Headed by Mrs. Maybury, this team was responsible for the organization and planning of this incredible evening. Thank you also to our wonderful Greensborough staff and School Council who came out and supported the event throughout the evening.

Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the evening !
