ROY G. BIV List the abbreviated

colors Visible spectrum is

the colors your eye can detect

Red is the first color on the left, with a large wavelength and a low frequency

Violet is opposite red

Here is an animation to help you understand what really happens.

Black Body Effect

1. Earth absorbs most radiation. Its temperature is based on the amount of

radiation it absorbs.Blackbody effect is

both absorption and the resulting emission.

The black body's temperature affects the intensity of emission.Earth then releases infrared rays back into space.

Page 5: Greenhouse Effect

Albedo

The reflectivity of any substance the albedo. The albedo for Earth is roughly about 0.28; 0.28 is a ratio, has no units.

Albedo reflects the sun's light back to the atmosphere and most of the time back to space.

Greenhouse GasesAlthough many people think

that the Greenhouse effect is harming the environment, it is actually essential for the survival of life on Earth. The Greenhouse effect keeps water at a liquid temperature and maintains the Earth at a warm and stable temperature for its inhabitants.

GWP is how much these gases can heat up the Earth.

The GWP over 100 years for SO2 is .019891

For CH4, the GWP is 7.24002

The GWP for CF3CH2F is 466.0454

Carbon Dioxide Stretches

Symmetric, Asymmetric, and bend.

Asymmetric stretches are IR active.

Kyoto Protocol

The Kyoto Protocol was made in Japan, in 1997. It is an agreement signed by many countries and industrialized nations to commit to cutting Greenhouse gasses to 5% below the 1990 levels.
