PRINCIPAL’S CORNER Excitement is in the air at Green Park. The Kindergarten through 4th grade classes have been practicing for weeks on their production of “At Tree Lot Christmas”. This production finds yet another way to share the great message of the Savior’s birth. If you read this in time, you are invited to the production this evening at 7pm. Come listen to our students share the great news of Jesus birth.

Congratulation to our 7th and 8th grade boys basketball team. They finished 2nd in the Green Park basketball tournament last weekend. Our 7th and 8th grade girls are in the Salem Affton basketball tournament and play for the championship on Saturday, December 10 at 2pm.

Just a word of encouragement to all families. This time of year things get out of routine and children become a little less settled. As they say, this too shall pass. Keeping routines as close to normal during this time helps the most. The students are excited about Christmas but sometimes lose focus from time to time, but hang in there, everything does return to normal!

ENROLLING NOW FOR 2017-2018 Thank you for your trust in us to guide and educate your children. We love each and every one of our students. What a pleasure it is to share God’s love in our education!

Re-enrollment is open for the 2017-2018 school year. Please check your email and follow the link provided through TADS to reserve your child’s spot for next year. The non-refundable enrollment fee is intended to hold a seat for your child. In order to make decision on staffing, curriculum, program enhancements and educational materials, a firm commitment of the number of students is needed. Please see the attached Admissions Calendar for enrollment and tuition information.

Upon completing the enrollment process you will be directed to set up your tuition payment and billing agreement. Please note that any tuition discount, church member endorsement, other church subsidy and/or tuition assistance will be applied to your account before the first installment date.

Any new Kindergarten or Junior Kindergarten students will need to begin the application and admissions process through TADS. Once accepted, families will receive an email link to complete the enrollment process.

Church Association families, please download the 2017-2018 Church Endorsement Form and submit to your Church. This form is available under your “2017-2018 Required Documents” in TADS or on our school website under “Admissions,” and also included with the Green Sheet today.

If applying for Tuition Assistance, please visit mytads.com/fa/lesa beginning January 1, 2017. To be considered for the first round of awards, the online application should be completed in its entirety and the family income documentation submitted, received at TADS by 3/15/2017 and in “good” status.

WINTER WEATHER - SCHOOL CLOSING REMINDERS With the change towards cooler weather in the weeks to come, we want to share with you our policy and procedures for inclement winter weather.

Green Park will announce school closings through our Educate (TADS) system with parents receiving one or more of the following: voice mail, text message and email. Voice and text messages will come from a (612) Minneapolis, MN area code, as this is where the TADS home base is located. Until we are satisfied that all parents are receiving the school closing information through Educate, we will continue to post on KMOV-4 and KSDK-5, our GPLS website and Facebook.

CHRISTMAS BREAK - DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 3 A reminder to everyone that Wednesday, December 21, is an 11:30am Early Dismissal day. After school care will not be available. School will not be in session during Christmas Break, December 22 - January 3. Classes will resume on Wednesday, January 4. On behalf of the faculty and staff we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year.

We will not have a PTO meeting in December, but look forward to seeing you all when we resume in January!

Make sure that you are saving those box tops. Our next classroom contest will end on January 20. The class who collects the most will have a pizza party!

Mark your calendars now, and start brushing up on all of those random facts! Our trivia night will be on February 25. Now is a great time to begin identifying your smartest, most fun, most competitive friends, or just the people you want to spend an evening of fun with!

PRESCHOOL STAY & PLAY Save the date, tell a friend. Green Park will be hosting Preschool Stay & Plays in December and January. When it’s cold and dreary, it’s the perfect chance to meet a friend for some playtime! The gym will be open with mats, scooters, balls and a bounce house. Stay & Plays are free of charge and designed for children under the age of 5. Mark your calendars for these Friday mornings from 9:00-10:30am: December 16, and January 13 and 20. HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR THE D.A.R.E. PROGRAM The Sports Collector’s Warehouse presents the Sports Collectors Expo this Sunday, December 11, from 8:00am to 2:00pm at the Bud Dome Sports Complex, 9711 Green Park Industrial Drive. This expo will help raise funds for the D.A.R.E. program. Admission is $4.00 in advance, and $6.00 at the door. Sports Collector’s Warehouse will donate 50% of the admission price for any family member who attends. The expo will feature autograph signings with Whitey Herzog, Mike Matheny, and some of the 1980’s St. Louis Cardinals. More details can be found on the attached flyer.

GOD'S WORD NEVER WEARS OUT, BUT YOUR OLD BIBLE JUST MIGHT! The Lutheran Rangers are offering dignified disposal of your unwanted Bibles and American flags as a service project. Please drop them off at our pretzel table Sundays at LCR or see your local Ranger prior to January 6. We plan to donate usable Bibles to charity so please mark your Bible if you'd rather not have it donated. We will hold "retirement" ceremonies at our cabin campout on January 7.

SCRIP NEWS A Scrip order is coming home today Friday, December 9. Please check your child’s backpack if you placed an order. The next order will be entered on Friday, January 13, 2017, with a delivery date of Friday, January 20, 2017.

A special Scrip Order Form is attached to the Green Sheet e-mail. Please use this form. This Scrip Order Form includes some special, limited time only, small denomination cards that will not be available after today. DO NOT use any forms dated prior to August, 2016. Old forms are outdated and may contain retailers who no longer sell Scrip.

DECEMBER CHAPEL OFFERINGS TO BENEFIT LUTHERANS FOR LIFE Chapel offerings for December will be benefitting Lutherans for Life. Lutherans for Life assists laypersons and church professionals in educating people about life issues. They encourage our churches to integrate these issues into their worship and education classes. LUTHERAN SOUTH ADVENT BAND CONCERT The Lutheran High School South Music Department proudly announces its annual Advent Band Concert. The concert is tonight Friday, December 9 at 7:00pm and will be performed in the Concordia Center at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood. The concert of traditional Christmas music and other band literature will feature the school’s Wind Symphony, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. The bands are conducted John W. Miller and Matthew C. Janssen. LUTHERAN SOUTH CHRISTMAS CHORAL CONCERT The annual LHSS Christmas Choral Concert is being given at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood on Sunday, December 18, at 7:00pm. The concert includes all four high school choirs, and the Junior Singers (select middle school choir sponsored by LHSS). The choirs are directed by Greg Gastler, assisted by Mary Zubert and Kelly McCord, pianists. Tickets are not required for either concert, though a door offering will be taken. STUDENT ILLNESS NOTE For the well being of all our students and staff, please do not send your child to school unless they are fever free (without any fever medication), no vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours. If a student has strep throat they must be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours. The school nurse cannot give over the counter cough and cold medications to students without a written note from the doctor and signed by the parent. Cough drops may be brought to school and kept in the nurse’s office for proper use. Finally, if your child is sick or not coming to school, we ask that you call the school office in the morning to let us know the reason why your child is absent.
