PRINCIPAL’S CORNER Next week is our week of achievement tests for Kindergarten through 7th grade. A word of encouragement for parents to make sure the students are getting enough sleep and a healthy breakfast in the morning. This will help the students do the best that they can on these tests. Just a quick word about the achievement tests. We have moved to a new test, Iowa Test of Basic Skills, for the coming years. Stanford, for the past three years, had not been able to update the grading norms and have led our schools to believe they were no longer providing this test. With the coordination of LESA organization and all the other Lutheran schools in the area, it was decided to move in this direction. Although these tests are important, please understand they are not an end all description of your child’s academic ability. This gives the teachers a snapshot of where students are in relationship to other schools in the country. It is also one more assessment tool along with homework, quizzes and tests to gain a complete picture of student’s abilities. Parents will receive testing results in mid-May. GOLF SCRAMBLE—FALL 2018—PLANNING NOW Do you have any connections to a Sam’s Club or Costco or a beverage/snack distributor? Are you willing to get some advertising and put your company name/logo on a Green Park Polo? We are looking for snack and beverage donations for our Golf Scramble in September. INTRODUCING OUR NEW SCHOOL COUNSELOR…. Thanks to Lutheran Family and Children’s Services of Missouri, Colleen Matlock, MA, LPC, joined the Green Park staff in early March, replacing Ms. Woehlke who left to take a new job. Mrs. Matlock earned her MA in Counseling at Webster University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She has worked in ABA Therapy with behavioral care for children with autism and run social skills classes for children 18mos-high school. She brings special training in care for victims of trauma called EMDR (Eye

Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) including anxiety or phobias. While she’s worked intensively in home with kids with behavioral disorders, she’s excited to be in a school. “I look forward to serving children using faith based counseling.” She can be reached at colleen.matlock@lfcs.org. PTO NEWS AND NOTES We are in need of a few great parents to join the PTO Board for the 2018-2019 school year. Michelle Schade will be staying on as the vice president and Tonya Pacino will be the secretary. We are in need of a new president, treasurer, and fundraising chair. No qualifications are required. UNIFORM FITTING DAYS We have two upcoming dates for uniform fittings. Please take advantage of these days to order uniforms for your child(ren). Dot the I Embroidery: Wednesday, April 25 (2:30-5:00pm): Dot the I Embroidery has our uniform shirts and sweatshirts, as well as lots of fun GPLS Spirit Wear items! Just Me Apparel: Monday, April 30 (2:30-5:30pm): JMA has all of your uniform needs (from our uniform plaid skorts, jumpers, matching hair apparel, shirts, pullovers, sweatshirts, sweaters & more)

Both companies offer website ordering and school delivery throughout the year, but it’s very helpful to attend one of the fitting dates or stop by their store locations for accurate sizing and ordering. We have a resale rack of gently used uniform items located in our teacher workroom. We accept uniform shirts, sweatshirts, and plaid skorts and jumpers. Some items may have a small purchase price and others are donated with love. If you have any questions about our Uniform Dress Code, Fitting Days, etc., please contact Mrs. Pfund in the school office.

ART TEACHER NEEDED We are seeking a part time Art Teacher to continue the excellent program for grades 3-8 beginning fall 2018. Qualified candidates include those with a teaching degree, experience teaching art for grades 3-8, and a love and passion for elementary and middle school students. SCRIP NEWS A Scrip Order was entered today, Friday, April 6, and will be delivered next Friday, April 13. The last Scrip Order of the school year will be entered on Friday, May 4, with a delivery date of Friday, May 11. This order is always a nice one to use for purchasing end-of-the-school-year gifts. Please plan accordingly.

Please note, Dierbergs and Shop ‘n Save gift cards are available for purchase in the school office. The cards can be purchased in denominations of $25 or $100.

CHAPEL OFFERINGS TO BENEFIT FEED MY PEOPLE Our chapel offerings for the rest of the year will be going to Feed My People. Feed My People was started in 1982 as a way to help people in the South County area needing food. Today, Feed My People has over 25 programs, including a Thrift Store at each location as primarily a service to their clients, but also open to the public. This organization serves 16 different zip codes in the St. Louis area and helps over 80,000 people each year. Feed My People is supported by donations from individuals, schools, churches, businesses, foundations and community groups. Please help us support their service to our community!

PEACE LUTHERAN OFFERING SUMMER CAMP The Peace Early Childhood Department is again offering a Summer Camp for kids for ages 5 - 12. Monday through Friday, from 6:00am-6:00pm.
