Operational DefinitionsA Green Firm is an organization that provides products and/or services that are aimed at utilizing resources more efficiently, providing renewable sources of energy, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, or otherwise minimizing environmental impact.A Green Job is an occupation that 1) directly works with policies, information, materials, and/or technologies that contribute to minimizing environmental impact, and 2) requires specialized knowledge, skills, training, or experience in these areas.

• Over 58% of employers prefer an associate degree specific to the position operations and repair technicians (69%), solar PV installers (64%), and customer service representatives (58%).

Educational Preferences

• Renewable energy engineers had the highest typical minimum education requirement, with 78% of employers requiring a Bachelor's or graduate degree. This was followed by research and development technicians, with 41% requiring a Bachelor's or graduate degree.

• Solar PV installers and operations and repair technicians had the lowest education requirements, with 85% and 84% of employers (respectively) requiring a completion of high school or equivalent, a specialized certificate, or Associate's Degree.
