Two artists from widely different generations express the ability of jazz, in their respective sets, to reflect individual voices while speaking universally. Rising star Cécile McLorin Salvant, who was nominated for the 2014 Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album for her CD WomanChild, is still in her 20s, while three-time Grammy winner Ramsey Lewis, with an unforgettable sound and outgoing personality, has been a leader in contemporary jazz, pop, and R&B for more than 50 years.

Since she launched to superstar status with the song “O Superman” in 1981, composer, vocalist, and writer Laurie Anderson has created groundbreaking works that span the worlds of art, theater, and experimental music. This visionary artist offers the latest chapter in her ongoing exploration of the American narrative and how we tell it: Language of the Future, a witty and poignant collection of songs and stories about contemporary culture, crossing the border between the reality of performance and the elusive dream world suggested by technology and information.

For decades, Bobby McFerrin has broken all the rules. The 10-time Grammy Award-winner has blurred the distinction between pop music and fine art, goofing around barefoot in the world’s finest concert halls, exploring uncharted

vocal territory, and inspiring a whole new generation of a cappella singers and the beatbox movement. He redefined the role of the human voice with his a cappella hit “Don’t Worry, Be Happy;” his collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma, Chick

Corea, and the Vienna Philharmonic; his improvising choir Voicestra; and his legendary solo vocal performances.
