Class lists for September 2018 On Wednesday 4th July, all pupils will spend the day in their new classroom with their teacher for the next academic year. Our transition work continues from now until the end of term to support our children at this exciting time as we know that some can be a little apprehensive about changing year groups. Year 6 This term, year 6 have been gripped by the novel ‘Welcome to Nowhere’ by Elizabeth Laird which is set in Syria and follows a family affected by the civil war. It inspired them to learn more about the difficulties faced by many Syrian people today and write a foreword for the book to give other readers background information about the story. All of the children wrote exceptionally powerful pieces and have shown that they understand how to write purposefully and for meaning with a controlled voice and great maturity. Please take a moment to read Ekene’s foreword from 6AP.

Year 1—Kenilworth Castle Trip Year One recently went on a trip to Kenilworth Castle. We really enjoyed exploring the grounds and looking at the ruins. We were interested in finding the parts of the castle that were still there, like the towers, arrow loops and the barbican. We were also able to have a picnic in the sunshine and then explore the beautiful gardens there. We then came back to school and wrote down what we had learnt. Jiya: "I really enjoyed going in the gatehouse and looking at the dining room and the bedrooms." C'Jae: " I spotted a tower and some arrow loops." James: " In the past there was no electricity so they used lots of candles to light the room . They used a fire to stay warm because they did not have radiators."

Year 3 In Year 3, we have been reading nonsense poetry. We have read the ‘On The Ning Nang Nong’ by Spike Milligan and ‘The Jabberwocky’ by Lewis Carroll. We have identified nonsense words within the poems and have selected real life words that could be used instead. We have been developing our descriptive writing through

setting and character descriptions and our own narratives.

Reception—Trip to Bishops Wood

Reception went on a fantastic trip to Bishops Wood recently. It was

linked to the story Where The Wild Things Are. The children had the

opportunity to go

on a woodland walk sequencing pictures of the

story, make up their own ‘Rumpus’, create clay models, play in a mud

kitchen and build a boat and Max’s bedroom. They had a wonderful time

developing their imagination in the woodland

environment.

Scarlett: We got on the coach and

went on an adventure. I liked listening to the story ‘Where The

Wild Things Are’ and making a creature with clay.

Emmy: I loved going to Bishops Wood. My favourite part was playing in the mud kitchen. I made Max and all

the creatures supper.

Callum: We went in the forest and found pictures of the story. We put the pictures in order from beginning to

end. It was so much fun!

Year 5 In year 5, we have been converting metric units of mass and length in Maths. We have been applying our skills and knowledge (such as fractions, decimals, multiplying and dividing) to new situations and working in pairs to solve multi-step problems. Miss Baillie and Miss Bonner are both really proud of how well everyone is working. Well done, keep up the fantastic work Year 5!

Behaviour Reminder Thank you to all the pupils who have responded so well to our focus on ensuring that children help create such a happy learning environment at school. Self discipline, good manners and respect for themselves and others underpins our school ethos. To encourage children to make responsible choices rewards are in place. Sanctions do also apply for pupils who choose to ignore or break our 4 school rules. School does have a formal disciplinary procedure to use as and when necessary. There is zero tolerance to name calling of any kind but particularly against anyone’s age, disability, ethnicity, colour or national origin, gender, sexual identity, orientation or reassignment, or their religion or belief. There is also zero tolerance for any physical aggression of any kind. Children are reminded of our school rules in every assembly and throughout every playtime opportunity. Please support your child and the school by encouraging discussion about the importance of following our school rules: We always work hard and use our time well; we always follow instructions first time; we always keep our hands, feet and objects to ourselves and we always show respect to others and their property. In this way, your child(ren) can develop a sense of responsibility for their own behaviour and consideration for others and grow in confidence, self esteem and independence. Ofsted July 2017 “Pupils are encouraged to show respect and consideration for others, and are expected to behave well.” The judgement for ‘Personal development, behaviour and welfare’ is good at this school.
